That's moving all right. I've never heard Loretta Lynch speak before. She's a great orator, even going over the dry procedural details her voice tells you about how important this is. And she's 100% right. It would be big enough if it was just about transgender people, but it's bigger still: whether we Americans want to be Americans still or revert to something much uglier.

I also like that she spares a moment of understanding for people who just have fear of the unknown. She doesn't call them a bunch of ignorant shitlords or dumbasses, she shows understanding, but she also puts them in her place. Impressive.

Redford - 2016-05-12

Anti-gay and anti-lgbt laws are an literary of hate. The only reason that those people are viewed as strange or out of place is because we are pushing back thousands of years of misunderstanding. These ideas were propagated by a group of people they have never seen, met, and have been dead for almost as long as those ideas existed.

Hazelnut - 2016-05-12

Yup. Which impresses me more with Lynch's speech: at no point does she get down on the haters' level -- she's compassionate, understanding, and fully in posession of a powerful moral voice.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

She went quite a long way pretty early on to undermine the cynicism of fucks like me. Usually when people with her job are well known, it's for terrible reasons. I already like the sound of President Loretta Lynch.

Hazelnut - 2016-05-12

'State sanctioned discrimination never looks good and never works in hindsight. It wasn't so long ago that states including North Carolina had other signs above restrooms, water fountains, and on public accommodations, keeping people out based on a distinction without a difference. We've moved beyond those dark days but not without a tremendous amount of pain, and suffering, and an ongoing fight to keep moving forward. Let us write a different story this time.'

I mean damn.

bawbag - 2016-05-12

Bravo!

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-05-12

Cool, a chance to give this more stars, and repeat my earlier sentiment.

FUCK YEAH BIG GOVERNMENT

Xenocide - 2016-05-12

Five stars aren't enough for this video. This deserves at least one Mario game's worth of stars.

Xenocide - 2016-05-12

Looks like the SJW's have taken over the government! Welcome to the United Safe Space of Triggermerica! RIP freedom. (plz give to my Patreon to support more HOT TRUTHS)

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-05-12

I jizzed red white and blue into your begging cup. I better see a doctor because I GOT TOO MUCH FREEDOM INSIDE ME

Hazelnut - 2016-05-12

Pretty funny.

Nominal - 2016-05-12

Truly we owe this victory to retweeting and being dicks in comment sections.

That guy - 2016-05-12

Fuck you, Xenocide, you don't get to equate this with SJW bullshit or campus bullshit. Our society moving socially left to recognize people's humanity is not the same as creating wild metaphysics that posit the kind of bullshit that SJW and campus shit posits.

Are you really this stupid? Do you really not see how the left of left of left bullshit tries to build a religion out of asinine ideas like triggering and such?

Or are you just having fun?

Bobonne - 2016-05-12

Kindly fuck off if you can't act like a decent human being on this page.

And Bort, save your extended shitshow for an election-relevant thread, please.

Bort - 2016-05-12

Yikes.

Bobonne - 2016-05-12

There's a time and a place.

Bort - 2016-05-12

And a motion and the way we are feeling, I know.

The "yikes" was how this section of thread went from lighthearted to hostile in 100 milliSueys (I hereby propose the "Suey" as the unit of Internet hairtrigger outrage). As for my usual shitshow, I wasn't even trying to go there, unless you consider overall appreciation for the Obama administration to be shitshow.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

Sorry I got you in trouble, Bort.

You wanna' ride bikes?

Bort - 2016-05-12

No prob, Shitglitter. I wouldn't be here if I couldn't stand some arguing.

I stand by what I said, that people are going to look back at the Obama administration in ten years and say, "holy crap, look at all the good he did! Can't we make him president again?" A lot of the stuff he did was slow and incremental, but by damn it got done.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

I'll always be your friend, Bort, nothing sticks by you like Shitglitter.

In ten years we'll have President Lynch, unless she's Supreme Court Justice Lynch.

Which would you prefer? Probably Justice Lynch for me, it's where she'd do the most long term good, but it would be nice to clone her and have both.

Have you seen her record? She somehow managed to once sit on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank and yet she went after banks and got billions out of them. A lot of what Obama gets blamed for is Eric Holder, and I am so happy he is gone (ten feet down the hall to be a lobbyist for banks). Loretta is not afraid of any political social issue, and she seems to prosecute apolitically. Her vs. FIFA was like she walked into the oligarchic field of velociraptors and gutted a tyrannosaurus in front of them as a warning.

She's sexy powerful, as opposed to oh goddammit powerful.

Bort - 2016-05-12

When you're looking at the Department of Justice, do bear in mind that Bush left it a shambles, as he did other departments he had little use for (like the NLRB). Obama has had to rebuild them pretty much from scratch, and it takes a certain amount of time for departments to amass collective expertise. I'm glad Lynch has been successful with prosecutions, but I don't believe it's because Holder was less interested; I suspect it has more to do with the condition of the DoJ.

I think you're starting to tumble to something that, apparently, can only be discovered for one's self: having doings with the rich and powerful does not guarantee that one's sympathies lie with them. Loretta Lynch is an example of that, but keep looking and you'll find more and more examples. Barney Frank's another one; he is denounced by the Leftie Left for criticizing Sanders and also for being on the board of directors for Signature Bank, and to hear them tell he's yet another one on the take. How about: he believes in properly-regulated capitalism, which means he is well-suited to either Congress or directorship.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

Well, if he's so great, why isn't he Chief Justice President Loretta Lynch? We might have to tweak more than the 22nd Amendment for that to happen. This is going to require electing some really weird state governments. How much money dumped into the Judge Dredd universe would have to happen to create enough voting fans for this? That is just a number and a number can be reached.

Bobonne - 2016-05-12

Good lads. Here, have some freezie pops.

Xenocide - 2016-05-12

That Guy, that lazy-ass thing I wrote has nothing to do with whatever ephemeral campus drama you're all up in arms about. It's a very mild exaggeration of how the 4chan/Breitbart/Reddit/Why-Won't-Girls-Talk-To-Me side of the internet is responding to the administration's attempts at fighting this law.

You don't even have to look far to see examples, there are plenty in the youtube comments of this very video (though to be fair, I did leave out the tedious "WHO WILL PROTECT THE CHILDREN?" horseshit. I'll try to do better next time.)

Mocking asinine far-right Youtube comments is like, 90% of what we do here. If that suddenly upsets you, maybe stop and ask yourself why you're suddenly identifying so hard with the sorts of people who in the POE Red days would be referred to as exhibits.

That guy - 2016-05-12

Bobonne, before I kindly fuck off, at least note that I was moved by the speech and the ethos behind it, hence the 5 stars.
This doesn't validate every last thing said on campus, or believed by anyone left of left, etc etc.
Xenocide's being a fat troll and I'm glad to tell him to fuck off.

This election is going to drive this country insane.

That guy - 2016-05-12

Xeno- I thought you might be fucking around with that.
I'm not a Breitbart fan let alone reader; no /redpill etc.
I'm not going to "ask myself" anything.

I'm reacting to about 6-7 people on this site who see exactly two shades of grey on politics, and if they (or you, or Bobonne) are suspicious of me, I'll chalk it up to their (your) stupidity.

In fact, the more left I've slid as I've gotten older, the more astounded I am by what a self-defeating shitshow the American left is.

Bobonne - 2016-05-13

TG, you don't have to fuck off, just, if we have to have the culture war about all that shit, can we have it in one of the, what, ten videos or so on the front page/pending getting through the hopper?

Please?

You can have my freezie pop.

That guy - 2016-05-13

Fine, but I want the grape one. Peace.

Bort - 2016-05-12

In about ten years, those of you who have been bitching about Obama all this time will be begging to repeal the 22nd Amendment and put him back into office. We've got a president who took a country pretty much ruined by his predecessor, set it on the right track with precious little help from Congress, and has endured nothing but grief from people who think he's moving too fast, moving too slow, or both at the same time.

Xenocide - 2016-05-12

Obama is the hero we need, Trump is the asshole we deserve.

Bernie Sanders is Alfred.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

You discredit Loretta Lynch by making this a part of your war on most Americans. I don't care when you do this to Hillary, but Loretta Lynch hasn't had the time yet to completely disappoint the earth yet.

You're jumping the gun on discrediting her with your strong unstoppable bias before we can even get to know her ourselves. It's not fair to her. You're inspiring people to toss her out with the rest of the Oligarchy's lapdancers.

She just buried Eric Holder's non-legacy with this video, but you want us to associate her with that time in our politics.

It's like you secretly hate her?

Nominal - 2016-05-12

I would have been curious what would have happened if Sanders won. His supporters turn on him just like they did Obama when it turns out you can't get much done without congress (especially given Bernie's consistent "all or nothing" approach)? Or they turn into a form of the Tea Party where they're happy if government never gets anything done as long as their candidates give defiant fiery speeches?

Nominal - 2016-05-12

Obama is an oligarch lapdancer who most Americans hate? wtf?

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

I remember you Trigglypuffs from back in the day. You're like cheating spouses that accuse others of cheating constantly to hide your guilt.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/04/clinton.poll/

" In early June, 22 percent of Clinton supporters polled said they would not vote at all if Obama were the party's nominee, now close to a third say they will stay home.

In another sign the wounds of the heated primary race have yet to heal, 43 percent of registered Democrats polled still say they would prefer Clinton to be the party's presidential nominee."

You're lucky Obama even caters to your lot.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

Oh man, this one's great...
http://www.nbcnews.com/id/24953561/ns/politics-decision_08/t/c linton-refuses-concede-nomination/

"Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton Tuesday refused to bow out of the Democratic race Tuesday, hoping to maintain leverage as Barack Obama clinched the delegates needed to secure the party's nomination.

Clinton told supporters in a rally at Baruch College that she would consult party leaders in coming days on how to move forward, but that, "I will be making no decisions tonight."'

She got Bernie Sandered!

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

*tears*

Nope, nope, I take that back!

THIS ONE makes my day.

http://www.wnd.com/2012/04/hillary-supporters-untold-obama-hor ror-stories/

Nothing new under that sun at all.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

Still love you guys though, just tossing some cold truth water on your unnatural lusts.

Nominal - 2016-05-12

I think you need another break from POETV. Have some orange juice.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

:)

Orange juice is important.

It's all just rhetoric pong anyway. I just discovered these Trigglery Clinton articles today, I was so into Obama in 2008 I didn't even see this stuff. It surprised me more than a little.

Being a Movie Pal, you should know I'm actually completely incapable of not taking your side on all things now. You'll get tired of that too.

Xenocide - 2016-05-12

I'm legitimately unsure what the point of any of that was. I guess we're all meant to be shocked that eight years ago, Hillary Clinton ran for president?

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

It would be political suicide on any web forum to claim anything on those links other than complete inability to comprehend them, absolutely. That's what makes them political rhetoric gold, like the Trigglypuff stuff!

What the links say are...

In 2008, Hillary Clinton supporters threatened to not vote for Obama if he became the nominee, accused his campaign of dirty tricks and fraud, and Hillary was constantly told to give up during the process, like Bernie is today.

You see, in the great game of political rhetoric, this uses your own discrediting of said behavior as a way to paint the Hillary supporters as the same.

I assumed since it was good for the goose, it was good for the gander. I was told this is why politics is enjoyable.

Why so serial? Excelsior!

I still don't get why a Loretta Lynch video had to be a Bernie bashing video, but here we are.

Bort - 2016-05-12

??? The only person who mentioned Bernie was Xeno, and he likened him to a talented Shakespearean actor / secret agent / field medic who's known for making obscene hand gestures. That's hardly Bernie bashing.

Speaking of WTF comics, here's from "Lois Lane" #57:

http://www.paprikash.com/ll57/

"In 2008, Hillary Clinton supporters threatened to not vote for Obama if he became the nominee"

Some did. A difference is, Bernie supporters also make like the whole of the Democratic Party is no different from the Republicans, so it goes beyond hurt feelings about a single contest.

"accused his campaign of dirty tricks and fraud"

Those who did so were sore losers then, just as they are now. So, did we have the spectacle of Hillary 2008 denouncing the superdelegates as evidence of a corrupt system to disenfranchise the people, then later pinning her hopes on flipping the superdelegates contrary to the popular vote? Because that's some seriously hypocritical shit, especially coming from a guy who holds himself up as the only honest man in Washington.

"and Hillary was constantly told to give up during the process, like Bernie is today."

Speaking a a Hillary supporter, I think the wish is that Bernie quit trying to do Donald Trump's work for him. Campaign on platform vs. platform -- like Bernie professed to want to do until he discovered the magic of mudslinging and innuendo -- and let everyone vote.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

I assumed your admonition towards Obama's critics had a perfect Venn Diagram with Bernie's supporters, I apologize if I was mistaken. You don't normally miss an opportunity to throw a punch.

Hillary was immediately associated with the establishment in 2008. She never got out from under it. Not even to this day where she is still riding the fallout from slinging mud at Obama and only hitting herself.

Man, that comic! I am starting to think there were times in a comic series where the writers wanted to make a social statement, but what?

Bort - 2016-05-12

Believe it or not, I try not to throw punches unless it's appropriate (for whatever definition of "appropriate" I deem appropriate).

The fact that Obama's critics on the Left coincide with Bernie's supporters is a coincidence, for these purposes anyway. I was pissed off at Obama's critics long before Bernie started in with the primaries. It's only now, when the country is contemplating a Hillary or Bernie or Donald presidency, that it becomes glaringly obvious how fortunate we have been to have had Obama in office.

(Funny story: elsewhere on the Internet, maybe a year ago, people started saying I was a Republican shill for reminding them that even President Sanders couldn't get anything done without a willing Congress. At the time, Bernie's fans genuinely believed that a president can simply will laws into existence, and if Obama never did that, it's proof that he was a Republican sellout all along. How their tune has changed, now that a small fraction of pundits have confirmed what any bright eighth grader knows: "no seriously, presidents don't make laws, so Bernie can't actually do the things he claims he can".)

I can't be assed to do the research to confirm, but back around that era of that comic, the eidtor of "Superman" comics was Mort Weisinger, a vile little man who delighted in belittling his tragically underpaid staff. As someone said in a quote I just found online, "Most writers who worked for Mort Weisinger would probably have paid to buy a ticket to his hanging, but they could not afford the price that scalpers would have charged." I would not be surprised if the dysfunction that bleeds out of old Superman-related stories -- the deception, the mistrust, the humiliation, the weird competition over marriage -- has everything to do with Weisinger's attitudes on how people should be treated.

memedumpster - 2016-05-12

Dammit, Bort, I warned you about Alternet!

Imagine the day when you have to also try and explain that once the laws are on the books, their enforcement has to be funded. Then, you can take a shot at explaining the concept of staffing the offices that are paid to enforce them with competent people willing to do it creatively and diligently. Then, you have to explain this all must be done over every so often forever or until you don't want it anymore.

Rhetoric really is the path of least resistance, admittedly. Oh well, I declare I lost on that realization. My whole premise was to devalue rhetoric, but now I see that education and rhetoric are two great pillars, and when one tanks, the other must rise to the occasion of keeping the world together.

If we don't just say what it takes, the world ends again. Now on to important matters...

That is an amazing quote about the hanging. Wonderful. I have very little nerd depth in comic books, so this is all new untapped entertainment for me. I read Seanbaby's long articles about how screwed up Superman comics were and I'm kind of hooked on the wtf inducing ones. See also Seanbaby's long articles on how screwed up Archie comics were.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2016-05-13

He set it on the right track with huge unemployment rates which he lies about, letting HMOs control healthcare even more, bombing the shit out of Yemen and half of Africa, invading Libya and creating a clusterfuck in Syria.

Yeah, he patched that shit up.

Bort - 2016-05-13

Hey ROUS? You are exactly wrong on each of those points. Read some actual news some time, not just opinion sites that aspire to Leftie truthiness (wherein the measure of quality is not factual accuracy but outrage at the government).

So where's that invasion of Iran you have insisted Obama has been trying to start since 2011 or so?

Maggot Brain - 2016-05-12

I just got a warm and fuzzy feeling my government?

il fiore bel - 2016-05-12

:D

StanleyPain - 2016-05-12

Contrast to the press conference that the gov. of NC gave, in which his "legal advisor" said that since the constitution hasn't been SPECIFICALLY ratified to say "discrimination against transgenders is bullshit" it means that they don't get actual constitutional protections. So, see, it's not like dumb, hateful, bigots WANT to treat LGBT people like shit. It's just that the government is FORCING them to treat them like shit because they haven't actually gotten together and specifically written out a Congressionally approved DOCUMENT that says not to treat them like shit.

That should be an interesting argument to use in court.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-05-12

"McCrory v People Without Their Heads Up Their Own Hardpacked Assholes" will be a very important case in the years to come.

Bobonne - 2016-05-12

Also, five-starring my own video. I don't give a FUCK.

I voted it up in the hopper, too!

Push me and see if I don't favorite it!

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-05-13

I triple-dog-dare you motherfucker, now lick that pole!

Bobonne - 2016-05-13

Woah. Remember that 'doubling down' bit that got tossed at the Governor?

Well, two can play that game:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/13/us/politics/obama-administra tion-to-issue-decree-on-transgender-access-to-school-restrooms.htm l?_r=1

No decent video on this yet, given it was a letter rather than a statement, but...woah. HOLY SHIT. This is...wow. I can't even put into words just how unexpectedly, not-in-a-million-years, mindblowingly big this is.

Bobonne - 2016-05-13

And meanwhile, in the department of Human Health and Services...

https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov /2016-11458.pdf

I'd say I'm glad I'm sitting down, but, uh, I'm always sitting down when I read stuff on my computer. The years of being tossed under the bus in bills aimed at rectifying discrimination against the LG(and barely B) communities, and then Obama, in his final year in office, just bypasses the whole shitshow and does the right thing.

Am I in bizarro world? Can I stay here?

Anaxagoras - 2016-05-13

Wow. Obama wasn't kidding when he said "Interesting things can happen in the fourth quarter."

Bort - 2016-05-13

If you're amazed at Obama working hard to do some good, I have to say, you haven't been paying attention. Obama has done nothing but try to make this country better, but even the people who should be relatively on his side have been treating him like a coldhearted monster.

Even this latest piece of news is yet another ramification of the much-hated ACA. Imagine if the Left hadn't given up on him by 2010, and instead gave him a Congress willing to work with him. Imagine how much could have been done.

Bobonne - 2016-05-14

Oh, be quiet, Bort. My amazement isn't about Obama. This is about society and government intersecting with the issue of trans rights. Which has been, thus far, particularly in the United States for the sake of this discussion, nonexistent, at least in regards to positive change.

The administration in power has had, up to this point, absolutely nothing to do with it.

Meanwhile, my amazement and joy at this day, and the statement for this very page, should be pretty damn obvious, and unconcealed.

So kindly tone down your Obama/Hillary defensiveness defcon level directed at me down a little, yeah?

Bort - 2016-05-14

"The administration in power has had, up to this point, absolutely nothing to do with it."

Well it's a pretty incredible fucking coincidence that these things tend to happen when Democrats have the power to make it happen, now isn't it.

"So kindly tone down your Obama/Hillary defensiveness defcon level directed at me down a little, yeah?"

Yeah, no. You and yours consider it a virtue to be cynical and even hostile towards the only team in town that's trying to help you. As Rahm Emmanuel so eloquently put it, doing so is "fucking retarded" -- was, is, and ever shall be.

Bobonne - 2016-05-14

Bort, you're so far up your own ass right now, I can only imagine you've been working on your toe typing to have posted that.

Have a nice weekend.

Bobonne - 2016-05-14

Also, you know what?

"Me and mine"?

Fuck you, Bort.

Fuck off.

Bort - 2016-05-14

Yeah, whatever. I find members of the impossible-to-please Left to be completely interchangeable: you all seem to think there must be a perfect solution to every situation just waiting to be enacted, and if the Democrats don't happen to enact it, it's because they don't really give a shit.

It occurs to me that you might be trans and that's what you thought I meant by "you and yours". I don't know your personal deal, but whatever your situation happens to be, the fact remains that you'd get more happy days like this if you and yours (i.e. disaffected Lefties) would actually support the team that's trying to help you.

It's not about Obama / Hillary defensiveness, it's about wanting more good things to happen for the LGBT community, for First Nations, for blacks, for Hispanics, for coal miners, for every other group in this country that's been shat on. You get there by lending support, not by withholding it.

Bobonne - 2016-05-13

Clearly, I'll have to learn to properly spell these various department names and heads if I don't want to get caught and deported. First Lynch, now this. Health and Human Services...
