The curtain was pulled back when they called electricians and foreman poor. Yeah, I'm sure 50-65k a year is poor to you assholes.

Meerkat - 2016-04-11

"Promotes Work" is a nice euphemism for "Treat Workers Like The Shit They Are".

They need to make sure that the rich have the maximum money possible to purchase superfluous cars.

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-04-11

It turns out the "free" in "Arbeit Macht Frei" meant valueless, not liberated.

kingarthur - 2016-04-11

If I see any of this, it's automatically eaten up by my student loans through the year and then some.

TeenerTot - 2016-04-11

I got this benefit this year. The 300 bucks will really help balance the 15 grand loss of income I had.

15th - 2016-04-11

You mean you didn't open up a small business with your refund? The cartoon was pretty clear about this.

Cena_mark - 2016-04-11

Yeah, I remember back when I was making 10 bucks and hour, I had about a 0 tax refund. That'll really keep one going.

TeenerTot - 2016-04-11

I have a small business. I'm supposed to open another one? I'd rather buy a few groceries.

Born in the RSR - 2016-04-11

Just ask Julie? Julie doesn't fucking exist.

I'd like to laugh at you guys and all, but we're slowly importing this kind of political discourse directly from the US.

Shit.

Good luck, buddy.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2016-04-11

Koch brothers or Cato Institute? There's a bunch of these scattered on YT and they all have low view counts and I can't recall any that's gone viral.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-04-11

Even better; Herman Cain and Bernie Marcus. They co-founded a thing called "The Job Creators Network."

This YouTube channel, called "Information Station," is their propaganda wing. Everything on it is pretty much evil.

Cena_mark - 2016-04-11

It's funny that they're giving lip service to a part of a tax code they wish to completely eradicate and replace with a flat tax.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-04-11

So evil... What'll we call our website? 'Right-wing-elite-randians.com' ? No lets got for something really generic that people might goto by mistake while looking for real information.. 'informationstation.org' !

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-04-11

Reminds me of those crazy anti-abortion cults that setup right beside real abortion clinics with generic names and try and trick people into going in.

The Earned Income Tax Credit is actually very important for low income families with children. A single parent with 2 children making /year would receive a tax credit of ,145. The credit favors families with children, so individuals with no children receive very little (less than 0).

A higher minimum wage would be a better solution, but until that happens the EITC is necessary for many low income families. Opposing the EITC because it is inferior to a higher minimum wage is like opposing the Affordable Care Act because it is inferior to the single payer system. Ultimately it only benefits those who are working to eliminate both solutions. People like Ken Braun (director of policy for informationstation.org) use the EITC to argue against minimum wage, but would happily see both gone. For example, North Carolina dropped its state EITC a few years ago, and the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act prevents local governments from setting higher minimum wages.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-04-11

Yeah, I ran the math. That EITC works out to about dollars a day for the year.

"Good news, kids, we can buy ketchup to go with our ramen noodles this week! No more scurvy for us!"

Love & Vomit - 2016-04-11

I'm not understanding the point you are trying to make, Binro. Are you criticizing the fact that a day seems insignificant to you, because it isn't insignificant to people who make a day. It's an increase of 25% over what they had before, just as k is 25% of k a year. Or are you lamenting the fact that there are people supporting two children who make so little that a day could make a difference?

Finally, despite the fact that I've never received the EITC myself, I do not consider to be a trivial amount; that's the price of three hand-jobs where I live, minus the cost of lube.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-04-11

You're talking to a guy who would spend about on a week's worth of groceries. I know what a difference that amount of money could make.

But that was when I was single and only had myself to look after. I know an additional a day doesn't do shit for a single parent with two kids.

Cena_mark - 2016-04-11

I read somewhere that the CEO of Whole Foods is a libertarian. Whole Foods is one of the highest paying place to work retail, and he believes that high wages are the libertarian thing to do, as it takes dependence away from the government.

SolRo - 2016-04-11

I'd check the source, sounds like some kind of bullshit made up by a libertarian idiot to further an argument.

Love & Vomit - 2016-04-11

Your math is so wrong.

You used to eat on a WEEK. You say that an additional a DAY "doesn't do shit" for a single parent with two kids. BUT IT DOES. a DAY equals a WEEK (7 times what you needed to survive). Most families that receive the EITC need it to survive. When your family has less than in its checking account the day before payday, a week means a whole fucking lot.

Is EITC the best solution? FUCKING NO, but until minimum wage is raised, it's all a lot people have.

Binro the Heretic - 2016-04-12

Calm down, L&V. I'm a bleeding heart dyed-in-the wool socialist liberal. Of course the minimum wage needs to be raised AND poor people still need the EITC. I'm the guy who posted this video.

You're the one who kind of sounds like you're saying the EITC alone is good enough. I keep saying an extra dollars a day isn't much help to a single parent with two kids and you keep saying it is. Yes, it helps a little, but not nearly enough.

Raggamuffin - 2016-04-11

Good lord. 5 for evil.

Ryo-Cokey - 2016-04-13

What, we aren't going to mention the hilarious naming? Almost every part of the name is ironic. It's not Earned (There's an income requirement, but it's incredibly small and you don't have to have a job to meet it), it's not levied on Income, and it's not a tax credit. (They call it a "full refundable tax credit" but that's just another name for a cash transfer done via the IRS)

Also, if I recall, wasn't the EITC a Republican thing?
