The FBI's most recent bust in Mississippi was nabbing an Arab American college freshman and his African American girlfriend (also a freshman) at Mississippi State University by posing as ISIS recruiters.

Note that no interaction with ISIS ever took place.

Shanghai Tippytap - 2016-03-18

dont you get it; they hated america!

but seriously this is fuckin nuts

kingarthur - 2016-03-18

The best they could come up with is that the kids had plans to "travel to Syria to join ISIS fighters".

Again, they never talked to a single person in ISIS, it was all FBI agents posing as ISIS.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-18

Yeah, the House of Hoover loves their entrapment! But in the FBI's defense, they probably nabbed that Arab kid, not to throw him in prison or see justice served, but in order to turn him into an informant. It's a strategy they employ all the time, and I mean, *that's* OK... right? Surely nobody would begrudge the FBI their ability to turn citizens into spies by dangling lengthy prison sentences over people's heads.

Fellow citizens, don't engage in the distorted logic of blame!

kingarthur - 2016-03-18

Except the kid was a US Citizen. Not an exchange student. As far as I know anyway.

Did poetv just go through some code change? None of the videos display at all in Firefox anymore. Just a blank spot. In Chrome they're a tiny window.

BiggerJ - 2016-03-18

Yeah, me too. We should bug pms at http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=128798 (assuming they still watch it and/or their account page) about it.

It's more likely a problem with Firefox. Works fine for me on Chrome, and I'm up to date.

In the long-term, I would consider switching to a browser that isn't trying it's hardest to dictate standards to everyone else and constantly breaking everything.

EvilHomer - 2016-03-18

Works with me on Firefox.

Chrome?

Old_Zircon - 2016-03-18

Anyway, it works fine for me in Palemoon.

yogarfield - 2016-03-18

Fine on Firefox for me.

Idelology?

EvilHomer - 2016-03-18

I wonder if this game includes that level where the CIA orders you to shut down your investigation, because the terrorists you're looking into are the nephews of CIA strategist Graham Fuller, and are in Dagestan with his blessing?

In all seriousness, we can laugh at the game, but it's important to remember that this is what the FBI actually believes - or rather, what the FBI actually wants American citizens to believe. For example, the Reddit/ Facebook/ Appstore paranoia (between 4 and 5 minutes in) *sounds* ridiculous at first, sounds like something the game designers couldn't possibly have meant to suggest - until you remember that the "technophobic panic" is a talking point constantly being hammered home by the security complex and its affiliated non-governmental actors. For example:

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/aug/06/nsa-director -cyber-terrorism-snowden

It's not just accidental incompetence that leads these people to suggest ridiculous things like "Reddit is dangerous and needs to be controlled, or else terrorism". It's a deliberate attempt to stoke paranoia and fear, in order to induce feelings of helplessness and dependence.

Five stars!

Scapegoat Simulator 2016.

"How out of touch is the FBI? Thinking acts of terrorism recruit on Facebook and Reddit, born of social rejection?"

Man, this did not age into wisdom.
