That cloud of skulls is straight out of Legend of Zu.

Aaaaand the promised Linux support. I look forward to playing this game never. :(

infinite zest - 2016-02-05

(Linux support that'll never happen that is)

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-02-05

Well if its built in some pre-made engine (eg. unity) , and it would be madness not to for an indie devm you get linux (+ a shitonne of other platforms) support for free out of the box with potentially 0 work involved.

infinite zest - 2016-02-05

Hope you're right, but I've seen indie games do this before, promise a Linux release down the line and then the game loses (pardon my pun) steam so they never get around to doing it. I don't really PC game much because I use a pretty ancient Gateway running on Mint, but this looks fun and would probably work just fine, given that Quake does. Fingers crossed..

You know, you can dual boot, IZ.

The ongoing lack of good audio software has always kept me from switching to Linux, unfortunately.

infinite zest - 2016-02-06

I've got Wine but it slows things down a lot. I tried to dual boot once and it totes crashed my ubuntu and my whole computer, which had to stay in CPU hospital for a week. Long story short I should get a new laptop; the one I'm using on was stomped by someone who lived in my old place, and whoever's it was had probably moved out, and nobody wanted it because the screen was cracked. So I just got a cheap LG monitor.. anyway it's a frankenstein's monster of a piece of shit, but it's my frankenstein's monster of a piece of shit.

I've found that Mixx works pretty well, it's kind of a knockoff Ableton. But I don't really use much more to record my stuff than the voice memo function on iPhone (works surprisingly well depending on the kind of stuff you're looking to do; with me it's kinda scuzzy bullshit so it works perfectly).

I'm not putting the old horse out of its misery but I am searching for a new laptop for some time in the future, that's under 0. I've been researching and the Acer Chromebook seems pretty good. I'm not one of THOSE Linux people either and would like to get more music apps and maybe a few games that Windows and Mac provide, but I thought I'd ask here since I don't trust the rest of the internet that much.

Best thing about CPU hospital was it was a suggested donation to fix my system and restore all my files. Gotta love computer co-operatives.

Unity (as of 4 point sumpin sumpin) exports to Linux really well. No idea if that still works in 5.hell.hell.phell.hell.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2016-02-06

@ IZ only problem is that if it *is* built in unity for example than that pixellated look is probably achieved by fancy shaders/ post processing and it probably performs worse than a non-pixellated looking game. It would certainly require an order of magnitude or so more oomph than quake.
Tho if its some custom engine than fair fucks to the developer, and someone prepared to go to those lengths probably also goes to the the further lengths to achieve amazing performance, but of course in that case it will only run right on specific hardware.. and therein lies the rub.

Personally I dont think graphics matter, good games *really* take place in your imagination, so you just need enough to spark that off. So I personally go for the generic pre-made engine, least work invloved, works on most platforms / hardware configurations route, leaving me to concentrate in making a good actual game.

Accidie - 2016-02-05

This game hates it's parents.
I'm for it.

Gmork - 2016-02-06

Looks boring as shit. Way to impress people who time travelled here from '97, though.

Two Jar Slave - 2016-02-06

Ever since the rise of pixel retro chic I've been looking forward to early 3D retro chic. It's happened a couple times already, mostly with shooters, and this seems like it could be a fun example of the style. Reminds me of 1995's HeXen. But, damn, they need A LOT more game before releasing a trailer. I hate to dismiss hard work, but this looks more like a proof-of-concept slice than a trailer.

Sputum - 2016-02-06

It's coming out in a couple of weeks, so I think this is basically the whole game.

It seems kind of like computer game version of witch-house, the modern gothy music genre. These days if you put a lot of effort into being a child of the night you are lame, but if you half ass it, it's kind of in.

Also, we are sort of reaching an indie game singularity: If your game takes more than 30 minutes to beat or 3 months to make, you aren't going to make any money off of it.

infinite zest - 2016-02-06

Strafe's the one I'm really looking forward to; it seems to have the best sense of humor regarding that short-lived era of FPS gaming. And it really was short-lived too. Unlike 8-bit and its revival (an era that was around as long as NES was) Unreal soon came around and changed everything, causing a lot of companies to scrap the use of the Quake engine. Unreal looked "better" so that was about it for Quake lookalikes. In fact off the top of my head all I can think of is Quake and Hexen 2 that had the "Quake look!" Though I guess Half-Life kinda counts too.. it's like the really obscure music genre of video games.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2016-02-06

What's up with all the skeleton vaginas?

kingarthur - 2016-02-07

Big deal. I see this every time I close my eyes.
