CN UK originally called this video "Amethyst's New Year Prank" when it's not really a prank to shape shift to look like a dudes long departed lover to taunt him, so the fans spoke out and had them change it. Now the video's title is "Amethyst Turns into Rose", which she didn't. IT'S SHAPESHIFTING. She can't turn into other gems or people. These are important details. Why are they so inept?

That guy - 2016-01-23

Is this a new thing for me to hate on here?

Also,what the fah-guck is "phsychological"?

Cena_mark - 2016-01-23

NO! This is NOT something to hate. This is the best cartoon being made today. You need to start watching it.

Also, why are you making up words?

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

Yeah, this show sounds like something we should hate. Hoarding, child neglect, television addiction - this material is pretty perverse. And now you're telling us that Steven Universe ENDORSES bullying?!

What would Tara Strong say?

That guy - 2016-01-23

Who's a sneaky little editor, Cena? Is it you? Isitiyou??
Yes you are!! You're a sneaky 'lil editor!!

Cena_mark - 2016-01-23

HOMER! This show isn't promoting those things it's saying don't do it. Don't bully, hoard, or neglect your kid while binge watching Little Butler. I like being friends, but you hating Steven Universe is too much.
Yeah, Thatgirl, I did edit. You may think that's lame, but you know what's lamer? Mocking spelling errors on the internet.

Xenocide - 2016-01-23

At least it's not My Little Pony, which supports erotic underage horse nudity, or Regular Show, which attempts to trick children into thinking Regular Show is funny.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

Hey, according to MLP Wiki, only 9.6091% of the ponies are underage.

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

Haven't seen this episode, and haven't watched it for a while (I just think it's a very beautiful cartoon to watch) but Amethyst IS kind of a bully, talks trash to the other Gems, is a slob and is usually the facilitator of Steven's misadventures. And that's not a bad thing: so's Bart Simpson, or Asuka Langley. To Amethyst, this probably was just a "prank." She was bullied and unloved so the cycle continues.

And that's a really important lesson for SU's younger audience: bullying begets bullying, and it's better to understand WHY the bully acts this way than to simply "stand up" to it, which just leads to more fighting, creating more bullies. But I am glad they changed the name. Especially for younger audiences calling this a "prank" is sending the wrong message. Regular Show, not sure what they think their demographic is. If you're an unemployed stoner watching CN in the middle of the day, just watch Bojack on Netflix instead. You obviously have cable and money..

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

No offense to Regular Show fans, if any of you are one. I could see the same premise working just fine for Adult Swim if you like that kind of stuff, but kids wouldn't get most of the references. If CN's target demographic is 13 and under and AS' is 14 and up, it just seems silly to have a show with Laserdisc repair as the theme of one of the episodes, and a whole bunch of 20-something stoner anthros working in a park, finding love in a coffee shop, etc. That's not relatable at all to 13 and under, unless everybody's gotten hipper than I remember them as.

That guy - 2016-01-23

........did you have to call me Thatgirl....?
*sniff*

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

Out of curiosity, what is the age of consent in Equestria? Horses' average lifespans are about 27 years so if they have to wait until 18 to start boning that's not a lot of fun.

Meerkat - 2016-01-23

what the fuck you guys

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

I don't think there are any official sources discussing Equestrian age of consent laws. However, one can consult the following:

http://4chandata.org/mlp/Equestria-laws-a43793
http://tinyurl.com/zhe42yt
http://tinyurl.com/zuglcg4

Answers tend to range between 12 and 16 (pony years).

Cena_mark - 2016-01-23

What the fuck, Mere Rat? You really have nothing to contribute here but that?
IZ, have you seen On the Run or TIger Millionaire yet? That one does a good job in getting into Amethyst's backstory and why she is as she is.

That guy - 2016-01-23

HAHA MERE RAT!!!

YOU GOT TOLD!!!!

Meerkat - 2016-01-23

Oh god the shame I am going to quit the internets

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

Cena not sure if I've seen those; I don't know the episode names, I usually just have it on in the background when I'm at work. But I know she's haunted by her own demons, because she was born a "bad" gem. So she still kicks plenty of ass, but like Asuka Langley, who also kicks ass but is kind of a bitch to everybody, she's got a past life in the trunk.

Back in elementary school I tried to be friends with the school the bully. I can't remember why we became friends but I'd go over to his house all the time after school. He was just one of those rich kids who had all the toys in the world and no one to play them with, so that was me. Dad left and Mom was an alcoholic. We all probably knew someone like that. We fell out of touch and last I heard he is in jail for battery and rape, something his rich dad can't even help with. I still think about it, like if I was the only one who could've helped him, just by being his friend. It comes in handy later in life but it's a good thing to learn when you're young. I think..

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

I did one of those yank-the-guys-shirt-over-his-head hockey moves on a bully and threw him into a locker. He wasn't my friend after that, but he did leave me alone.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

Cena, what is a Tiger Millionaire? It sounds vaguely terroristy. I don't know if you should be watching something like that.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-23

Tiger Millionaire is one of the best episodes, because it involves professional wrestling. Tiger Millionaire was Steven's wrestling persona.

That guy - 2016-01-23

(hey Cena, I laughed at Meerkat with you so we're buddies now right?)

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

OOOOOOHHH!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Mask

I swear to God, Cena, her plagiarism is getting way out of hand. Is there ANYTHING she's created which wasn't stolen from an anime or manga series?!

Cena_mark - 2016-01-23

Thatguy, we cool.

Homer, he was named Tiger Millionaire to go with Amethyst's Purple Puma gimmick. Also he looks nothing like that manga. If anything Tiger Millionaire is more of a take on the classic evil rich guy heel character like Ted Dibiase.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WgmmIsiSUk

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

Yeah, no duh! Tiger Millionaire is clearly stolen from Tiger Mask and the Million Dollar Man.

Once again, it's the old "Sonichu approach" to creative writing. Sonic the Hedgehog + Pikachu? Sonichu. Tiger Mask + Million Dollar Man? Tiger Millionaire. What's next? Amnyfest becomes a wrestler called Kinnikuman Warrior?

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

Also, I'm kind of surprised you weren't aware of the Tiger Mask plagiarism already. Tiger Mask is one of the most famous figures in puroresu, and there's been something like five or six IRL wrestlers who've used Tiger Mask as their gimmick.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

According to Wikipedia, Tiger Mask I held the WWF Junior Heavyweight Championship belt back in '82, and Tiger Mask IV appeared on TNA a number of times in '07.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-23

... shit, hang on...

YEAH! I fukken knew it!!! I knew that sounded familiar!

http://www.giantbomb.com/great-puma/3005-14699/

There's your source for Amnyfest's "Purple Puma" gimmick.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-23

I knew about Tiger Mask. I had no idea the name was preceeded by a manga. Either way you could fill Applejack's barn with all the straws you've grasped at.

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

I don't really see it as plagiarism. One thing I like about the show is its sort of early Studio Ghibli look as well as the Miyazaki-esque storytelling in general, but adapted for a more American audience. I don't see anything more wrong with that plagiarism-wise than a band having musical influences.

infinite zest - 2016-01-23

Plus other shows do that all the time, for example The Simpsons' McBain and Bartman were pretty obvious parodies/homages of their source material, John McClain and Batman respectively.. but I digress.

ashtar. - 2016-01-23

Is Cena doing Cena_Mark Derogatory Nicknames™ again? I thought he stopped doing those. Can I have one? Uh, cartoons are dumb. So is wrestling. How about now?

That guy - 2016-01-23

ooooo-oooooh!
*gets phone out, hits record*

EvilHomer - 2016-01-24

You're Asstard, obviously.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-24

ashtar, cartoons today are better than ever. They're able to tackle issues and themes that weren't possible when you were a kid.

infinite zest - 2016-01-24

Like anything else SU is a good show but like any show, movie, genre, if it's not for you it's not for you. Hell, I tried to watch MLP:FiM. I liked the animation and the songs and the sense of humor but I decided pretty early on that it was not for me so I don't follow it. But that doesn't mean that I hate MLP or anything like that.

I mentioned Miyazaki above, and that's one thing I really like and can relate to from the show: to me, The Gems are Stevens means of escaping reality, and I have no doubt that this is all in his mind, dealing with the guilt of being born and killing his mom Rose in the process. Spirited Away had a similar vibe. So the Gems just represent different aspects of his mom's personality as a kid who tries to come to terms with this through escapism. It's the story of a kid's redemption for something that wasn't his fault. Otherwise if all this was going on, sometimes in Beach Town, then how come nobody seems to remember it or the town wasn't destroyed?

Or I dunno, I like to interpret stuff like that; everything's a metaphor, so don't mind me. But next to Rick and Morty and Bojack it's probably my 3rd favorite animated series ATM.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-24

SU is only able to tackle issues that aredeemed "acceptable" by the show's corporate owners. These are *different* issues than the ones which were possible when you were a kid, but technically speaking, it is still as safe and non-subversive as television has always been.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-24

Also, the SU fandom is directly responsible for at least one murder.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-24

Murder? Are you refering to Zamiii's attempted suicide? That's not a murder, and it wasn't the fandom.

EvilHomer - 2016-01-24

Yes, it was attempted murder. Yes, it was the fandom. I know you've seen that video in the hopper, so don't even give me that "innocent" routine.

infinite zest - 2016-01-24

I'm voting it out of the hopper, but I assume such bullying comes with anything on the internet. Hell, Waugh tells us to kill ourselves all the time, and I'm sure it's happened with every other cartoon fansite at one point or another as well. This doesn't excuse SU fans for saying what they said and causing the suicide attempt to occur, but IMO they're just assholes who happen to like SU.

ashtar. - 2016-01-25

:(
Thanks, though, EH.

Old_Zircon - 2016-01-23

With regard to the description, that's pretty much what "prank" means these days. Thanks for that, Youtube prank videos.

The New Meat - 2016-01-24

Are you sure this is really from Steven Universe? I didn't see any characters weeping uncontrollably.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-24

They don't cry all the time. The cartoon you're thinking of is Crying Breakfast Friends.

The New Meat - 2016-01-24

You mean Steven Universe? That sounds like Steven Universe.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-24

Crying Breakfast Friends is a cartoon Steven watches.

MurgatroidMendelbaum - 2016-01-24

The joke is that she role-plays his dead wife whenever they fuck.

Bort - 2016-01-24

Today I watched a cartoon about a furry who lives in his parents' house, keeps a young boy in a cave, and goes out at night to pick fights with other furries. I'm feeling much better about that decision now.
