There are states where you are legally allowed to murder someone on your property, regardless of them being a threat to you. Cases have gone to court, murderers have walked free.

Yeah Oklahoma's a Stand Your Ground state, just like Florida. I knew a kid back in high school who was the class president and broke into the school, defaced some shit and was expelled despite his parents' status as PTA members and such. The kid was a dumbass but learned his lesson

but the lesson shouldn't come with bullets, thank you very much "submit" button that I didn't mean to push too soon.

He rang the doorbell... with honor

I'm sorry the kid got hurt so badly and I'm glad he wasn't killed, but I can recall another news story from years and years back about some poor wretched recluse who became the target of all the local bored teens.

He lived in an old and sort of broken down house. Kids thought it was fun to vandalize his property and "buzz" his home. To "buzz" the house, a carload of teens would drive slowly & carefully up to the house at night with the headlights off, sometimes even driving right up onto the lawn. Then they would suddenly switch on the lights, shining them into the windows and lay on the horn while shouting and screaming. When he would come out to chase them, they would take off, often tearing up his yard in the process. Complaints to the police got no results. This had been going on for over fifteen years.

The old guy had acquired a gun and decided one night to wait in a patch of woods just outside the property. When a truckload of teens drove up into the yard and started flashing the lights and shouting, he opened fire. He told the cops he was just trying to shoot a tire out so they couldn't get away and the shots did seem to all be directed at one of the rear tires, but a ricochet sent a bullet fragment into a kid's arm.

Some of the parents were interviewed and it was clear the kids were picking up their attitude towards the old guy from them. One mother even referred to the guy as "the troll", the derogatory name the kids called him. Of course, all the parents insisted their kids were good little angels who would never hurt anyone and that they had been innocently driving past the house when this old nut opened fire on them for no reason.

While I'm against anyone settling problems with a gun, I'll wait to hear the rest of the story before judging too harshly.

Yeah I'm sure there's more to the story and it wasn't like a Jehovas Witness ringing your doorbell.. Years ago when I first moved back to Portland I decided to do free laundry back at my parents' house when they were out of town, so I packed it all in a garbage bag and bundled up for the rain, which pretty much meant a black hoodie. After realizing the front and side door were bolt locked, I went around the back. There's always a secret enterance.

Anyway I'm just raiding their refrigerator and doing laundry when I hear a ring on the doorbell, and it was their across the street neighbor, who wouldn't have recognized me much since I hadn't been around for 10 years. We had a laugh and that was that, but I also realized how stupid I was for doing such a thing in the first place, and wouldn't have blamed her for brandishing a baseball bat or calling the cops instead of just saying "hello?" If she shot first and asked questions later I probably wouldn't be here.
