Probing the shorelines for possible invasion routes.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-12-29

It's dying, like so many other deep-sea creatures that turn up in the shallows.

It's not going back to the sea. They'll observe it as long as it's alive, then they'll take it to a refrigerated room for dissection. It will end up in a series of jars.

yogarfield - 2015-12-29

You must be so fun at parties, what with your telling everyone how they're going to end up in a series of jars and all.

TeenerTot - 2015-12-29

Yes, it was dying. But because it was dying anyway, it was chosen by the high sqidborn for this pre-invasion reconnaissance mission.

gravelstudios - 2015-12-29

Now now, It's Japan. You know quite well that they're gonna eat it.

Can I help?

How fucked does it mean our environment is when no one had seen a complete specimen in all of human history until just the last decade and now they're popping up dead and dying anywhere

Happy new year :(

I believe giant squid are toxic because of all the ammonia in their flesh

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-12-29

It is quite disturbing, because it is an indication that the temperatures are affecting ocean currents around the world. Jellyfish are having a field day, though.

Also, I used to have dreams of this happening to me when I was a kid. Every time I saw the ocean up close (which was a rare treat) I would just try to bring the squid to me telepathically. I wanted to be the Squid Whisperer when I was 5.

Mothra couldn't be far behind all that calamari. Fukushima alarm clock!

gravelstudios - 2015-12-29

@ SolRo: That never stopped the Japanese from eating anything else.

Potter - 2015-12-29

Naw, we're seeing these squid because they are thriving! At least until they over run their dwindling food supplies and the population crashes.

Dying for sure, yeah. Wildlife Rescue 101: if a wild animal is letting you get close, it's either a helpless infant or something is already terribly wrong.
