Lion gang signs!

Wow. I actually thought they stopped making this show back in the 80s, which was why the 90s American version looked kind of old in the fighting scenes. This is 2016 and looks old too though.

kingarthur - 2015-12-27

They got a really, really good deal on some bulk rate film stock back in 1980 and they still haven't run out.

EvilHomer - 2015-12-27

No, they've been making these things non-stop. Apparently this will be the 40th series.

infinite zest - 2015-12-28

Wow! Besides soap operas and game shows, is there any show that's lasted longer? Star Trek kind of counts off and on I suppose, but those universes kind of change, whereas Power Rangers stays the same and it's just the characters that change, kinda like Pokemon.

Super Sentai has almost 2,000 episodes, which from what I can tell is the highest episode count of any scripted, non-soap-opera, non-skit/children's-variety show. It's not the longest running scripted TV show - Kamen Rider started airing episodes four years prior to Super Sentai - but at nearly twice the episode count of Kamen Rider, those four years don't count for much.

What's funny to me is that for the 35th anniversary, they had this huge extravaganza season. They brought back all 34 previous ranger teams for a huge crossover and they all fought in a big war together. They introduced a new team who could use the powers of all the other heroes. They brought back dozens of actors from the old shows, some of whom had been retired for decades but came back just for this occasion.

And now for the 40th anniversary: Yiffing.

infinite zest - 2015-12-28

Wow. A crossover almost always signals the end of a series too. But in Power Ranger's case the shark wasn't jumped, but rather the shark.. sharked the.. whatever the shark's going on here. If you've been keeping up is it still relatively the same storyline or has it changed over the years? Rita Repulsa was always bnoer material for me.

BiggerJ - 2015-12-27

Power Rangers recently skipped a Super Sentai series (Go-Busters) for the first time (they've got some leeway, at least partly because the show ended forever until Saban bought it back). I wonder if they'll skip this one when they get up to it or if Earth's going to be visited by Zoomans from Zearth or whatever they call them.

BiggerJ - 2015-12-27

Oh, and they doubled up on Sentai seasons during the Megaforce season. At best, they have one more mulligan.

gravelstudios - 2015-12-28

This seems like a natural extension of the basic premise to me.
