Steam is good for promoting and feeding the developers of great indie titles. All but 2 of the games I have on steam are small under games. I don't know why anyone would buy a major title off there.

Besides DRM-free GOG, what is the superior alternative to getting games?

Playism's the best for scrounging through Japanese indie/doujin games, and a lot of it's English translated so the language barrier's not such a problem (might still be some minor compatibility quibbles).

Humble Bundle has their own store now in case you're tired of not seeing what you want in their actual bundles, and a portion of your purchases go to a charity of your choosing.

If nothing else, Steam makes it easiest to hook up with my friends for online shenanigans without running Skype or such in the background (for me at least, multiplayer is vastly improved when you can actually talk to people you play with). And as much shit as it gets (and deserves), it's still far better than EA's Origin or Ubisoft's Uplay.

I dunno what's "superior", but I use each for their own reasons.

Oh, and -1 star for a PSA that doesn't contain shit catching fire or people hurting themselves and each other with lab/construction equipment.
