Neat costuming, I haven't seen a Furry sloth yet, so this works for me, good realism.

EvilHomer - 2015-12-23

I think it's because a lot of furries like to pick fursonas that are empowering or flattering, but sloths are generally perceived as being neither. Wolves are cool, foxes are clever, sloths are... slow.

Also, there haven't been too many positive portrayals of anthro-sloths in the media (I can't think of any, in fact). I'm willing to bet that if people had made children's cartoons which starred talking sloths, then you'd see a few them at furry conventions!

Meerkat - 2015-12-23

If I ever get around to learning Unity I will create a videogame where you play a sloth and have to navigate down a tree to take a poop and then get back up it again.

EvilHomer - 2015-12-23

WikiFur only lists three people who have a sloth fursona; two professional pornographers and a random girl. This means that sloths are far less popular than otters, skunks, or even sharks.

infinite zest - 2015-12-23

Depending on how realistic your requirements are, a sloth fursona would, as Meerkat says, be very boring at conventions and such.

infinite zest - 2015-12-23

although I would play your game :)

Meerkat - 2015-12-23

It could actually be pretty good, like you could have birds dropping eggs that you would need to avoid and branches could break and all sorts of other stuff. Like Crazy Climber, only on a tree with birds and breaking branches and snakes and fire ants and exotic pet collectors.

EvilHomer - 2015-12-23

If anyone's curious, I put a video by one of those furry sloth guys in the Hopper. His webcomic is worthy of Poe-Red.

(link may turn NSFW as he updates his blog)

Boomer The Dog - 2015-12-23

Ha Homer, you found Picklejuice.. :) I've known about Picklejuice for many years, he's been on the transformation internet since the 1990s I think, finding him way back when looking for Shaggy Dog stuff and people who liked it, coming across his bio listing the Shaggy movie as one of his favorites.

I don't know if he did NSFW works at the time, they seemed to be pretty tame, and just humor comics about changing into Dog people and such. I might have written to him once or twice, but I don't remember, and we didn't have any conversations.

Later I found out he did NSFW, and figured it out, he's Picklejuice, and juice comes from his pickle. I just think it's cool that he's still around and bigger time now, making art on commission. He's even on my Friends list on Fur Affinity because I remembered him.

Animal transformation is so awesome, but there probably aren't even hundreds of people who are really into it to the point that's all they draw.

Yeah, I was going to point out that the very first entry on his blog right now is a dog transformation comic, but it seems you're way ahead of me!

I barely know a thing about Mr Picklejuice, but he says that he's been doing NSFW comics since 2004, so maybe that's a "new" thing, relatively speaking? The sloth fursona might be new, as well - the other two furs mentioned on WikiFur look like they started off as a different species before going sloth, so perhaps Picklejuice wasn't always a sloth, either?

Boomer The Dog - 2015-12-23

I don't remember Picklejuice being a sloth earlier, I can't recall what his animal was. I'd like to think it was a Canine, he did a lot of work in Canines that I saw on archives back then, and he was into the Shaggy Dog movie. I just saw his art on sites, and don't remember his icon. His art always had a humor over the transformations that I liked, even in single panel works.

EvilHomer - 2015-12-23

I checked his Wiki again, and here is what it had to say regarding his fursona and name:

----
He has stated he does not have a specific fursona ("My tastes are always changing, as it were") but when pressed he says he enjoys the fursona of a three-toed sloth because they are a rare species whose entire physical anatomy is geared toward living life upside-down. They represent seeing things from a different angle.

"Picklejuice" chose his name because he was the only person he knew of who enjoyed drinking the brine from pickle jars. Today he enjoys the fact that picklejuice itself is a transformative object: it takes normal innocent cucumbers and transforms them into pickles. It was not chosen because it's a salty liquid that squirts out of a long, hard, cylindrical object.
----

And yeah, it also goes on to say that Mr Picklejuice got into drawing transformation sequences because of The Shaggy Dog.

Boomer The Dog - 2015-12-23

Thanks for your research Homer, I hadn't gotten to his Wiki page yet, but I'll have to take a look. It's nice to clear up where the name Picklejuice came from and what it really means for him.

The Shaggy Dog man, what did Disney do to us with that movie.. He's a kindred spirit because of that, Picklejuice.

I like looking at transformations in general, seeing sequences, but haven't really drawn them myself. Most of mine are of Dogs or someone who has transformed into a Dog anthro, so the change is more implied, like they've changed and gotten on with their lives.

My huge time with transformation was the 1980s, I thought about changing into a Dog every day it seemed like. Transformation is still there, but with time it's just settled in, and so they just are the creatures they are.

I'm sure this doesn't make ANY KIDS want to smoke pot.

Old_Zircon - 2015-12-23

The Youtube comments are a more effective PSA.

Meerkat - 2015-12-23

You know, these PSA's that project a false image are not helpful. As soon as a kid sees a stoner that is halfway competent it totally discredits the PSA and the kid knows they're full of shit.

A better PSA would be a stoned guy talking at you about stupid crap for an hour until you leave, or laughing hysterically at The Goodies or something.

infinite zest - 2015-12-23

Yeah this is more my reaction when I snort ketamine or drink beers on an empty stomach, not weed. And I'm usually the person who's not high. My girlfriend smokes it all the time and I've never gotten annoyed the way I would with myself if I was drinking and going off on a drunken rant or in a k hole

Old_Zircon - 2015-12-23

The thing is, Meerkat, the stuff you're talking about isn't so much symptomatic of being a stoner as it is of being an idiot who happens to be stoned.

Although I guess "stoner" (as opposed to just someone who uses cannabis) is kind of synonymous with that. Fandoms in general tend to attract that sort, whether it's Star Wars fandom or Nascar fandom or weed fandom or whatever. There are superficial differences but the underlying pathology is the same.

That guy - 2015-12-23

For most stoners I know, "stupid crap for an hour until you get bored and leave" would be a perfect warning to kids. It's like a 106 IQ treatise.

I would be a terrible warning because it makes me laugh about animals, animal videos, the idea of animals, birds I can hear in the background, etc. Do as I say, not as I do, kids!

infinite zest - 2015-12-23

Yeah it's kind of like any other drug. I've known the laughers and the professors and everybody inbetween. It's like alcohol: sometimes you get the happy drunk and sometimes the angry. Hell, I get off on a drug used to tranquillize cats so who am I to judge.

But worse than this are the billboards I keep seeing around town now that it's legal. Still nothing as dumb as the colorado PSAs but basically reminding folks that high driving is drunk driving. No it isn't! I don't condone either one but I'd rather be with a driver who has been drinking than one who is high, since there's sort of a "creeper" effect with weed. Have one too many shots of whisky and you pretty much know immediately if you should call a cab, but weed usually kicks in about 30 minutes, at least for me anyway. So I'm enjoying my happy high and then all of a sudden I'm at an intersection for 2 red lights or something. Also motherfuckers be smoking blunts like they were cigarettes on a 15 minute break since they legalized it. That's not how you smoke weed.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-12-23

...

What the serious fucking fuck?

Hooker - 2015-12-23

Dude, get your teenage weed out of our teenage alcohol party. Jesus Christ.

infinite zest - 2015-12-23

I heard all the cool kids drink soda pop out of red plastic cups you can't see through these days.
