Edrogan now suddenly regrets shooting down the jet

Bobonne - 2015-11-28

Edrogan is an idiot.

Say what you will about Putin, but you can't really call him an idiot.

Jeriko-1 - 2015-11-29

Edrogan is the Joffrey Baratheon of NATO.

Turkey of course only part of NATO due to -geographic and strategic location- and not anything Turkey does or provides otherwise. Of course Turkey/Edrogan are damned well aware of the strategic importance over everything else and engage in all kinds of underhanded shit knowing none of their allies will even think about reigning in their behavior. NATO is in turn aware that Edrogan is a self destructive, small time moron who wants to force his way into the bigger game. A game which he fancies himself a Grand Master.

There were no worries about Russia and America having any kind of serious scrapes. They both know how to handle each other to the point where it's like "Good morning, Sam..." every day. There was -every worry- Edrogan was going to do something stupid and then duck behind NATO if he overplayed his hand. Which he did predictably. I'm pretty sure at this point most of the West wishes Turkey would just up and vanish into a black hole. Since no matter what kind of assholery Turkey dishes out the West is bound by law to defend them.

Shanghai Tippytap - 2015-11-29

on the other hand, after fucking up Ukraine, it's nice to see russia get slapped and be unable to do anything about it but raise this giant metal penis truck.

SolRo - 2015-11-29

Technically America fucked up Ukraine, Russia just tried to protect its interests and people there

Shanghai Tippytap - 2015-11-29

what were russias interests there solro

SolRo - 2015-11-29

Naval base, nuclear silos, other military outposts.

Shanghai Tippytap - 2015-11-29

oh so military interests to prop up their totally legit corrupt kleptocracy cool

SolRo - 2015-11-29

You're a god damned idiot if you think the American politicians that went over to support those neo-nazis gave even one shit about corruption.

And surprisingly, the neo-fascists oligarchs that got put into power are just as corrupt, if not more so, as the old guys.

wtf japan - 2015-11-29

Technically America fucked up Czechoslovakia, Germany just tried to protect its interests and people there.

SolRo - 2015-11-29

Oh yes, the hitler idolizing neo-nazis are the good guys, but it's the Russians who are just like nazi Germany.

How can you be so stupid?

wtf japan - 2015-11-29

No one said Ukrainians or Americans were good guys.

You're just like the Zionists and right-wing Israelis you get so worked up about, you know. You just make excuses for Russia instead of Israel.

SolRo - 2015-11-29

You -are- implying that americans/fascist ukranians are the good guys while Russians are exactly like Nazi germans.

What was Russia supposed to do? Stand back and do nothing while America did its Ukraine geo-political engineering attempt number 2 on a country on its border? Just stand back and let the neo-nazis murder or subjugate anyone that isn't "Ukrainian" enough?

Baron_Von_Bad_Beaver - 2015-11-29

Yep, that's what Russia's state media says, so it has to be completely 100% true.

SolRo - 2015-11-29

That's what video of the events as they happened says.

But keep on being a dumb fuck.

wtf japan - 2015-11-29

Show me how suggesting Russia is shitty automatically makes America or Ukraine good guys. I fail to understand.

Baron_Von_Bad_Beaver - 2015-11-29

I'm not really suggesting much here except that SolRo has a rather narrow view on global events, especially with things that involve the motherland. And we're making grand generalizations on extremely complicated events.

To me, Putin's Russia wants to be a modern day Athens and he needs a Sparta, the US, and any chance he can embarrass the US, he'll take it, and in any moment the US acts weak internationally, he'll exploit it.

There's probably a lot of things that he has experienced since the fall of the Soviet Union that frames his antagonism to the West: American arrogance and the whole 'we won the cold war' thing; the disintegration and splitting off of various soviet satellites, Chechnya, the encroachment of NATO on Russia's own 'back yard'.

Ultimately, Putin think's the playing the best with the hand that he has been dealt, but I think he has only weakened Russia, and has destabilized the eastern European region for rather self-interested reasons.

A lot of people think he's playing recent events cool as a cucumber but to me it looks like he's trying to cling on to what little international power his Russia has left. With Syria on fire, Iran making a deal with the west, Ukraine trying to go EU and maybe even NATO one day, Russia is on the defense, they stand to lose a lot.

That guy - 2015-11-29

SolRo just being SolRo

SolRo - 2015-11-29

Actually before American interests riled up a bunch of nazi skinheads to overthrow the elected government, Russia's evil plan to keep Ukraine from going to the EU was to give it a big financial bailout vs the EU plan of a world bank loan, massive austerity cuts and selling off state owned businesses.

This plan was so evil that America just couldn't stand by and watch innocent international looters lose their chance at massive profits while useless Slavic dregs got to keep their jobs or pensions

gmol - 2015-11-28

Maybe one day 'military exercises' will just be a euphemism for opposing countries to put out dueling youtube videos of military technology with awesome background music.

wtf japan - 2015-11-29

Erdogan and Putin are very similar in their political methodologies, and I hope they continue to antagonize and emasculate each other.
