This won't stay up long. If you're not watching Gravity Falls you should. I'm talking to you HOMER!

Cena_mark - 2015-11-02

Its not as good as Steven Universe of course. I'd rank cartoons like this.
1. Steven Universe
2. Gravity Falls
3. MLP

EvilHomer - 2015-11-02

Feh. You're trying to bait me, but it won't work. I only watch grownup cartoons, like Bob's Burgers or Invader Zim, and at any rate, Gravity Falls - with it's Illuminati-awareness, hipster monster-toy aesthetic, and blatant pandering to the incest community - is clearly superior to that girly wuss show, Steven BOOniverse.

I'll happily admit, I could probably watch Gravity Falls... if I were fifteen years younger, and the art style didn't look so much like Family Guy. I like that they have a Diamond Tiara type character, and the painted backgrounds are wonderful - which is more than I can say for the flat pastel laziness that is Stevechu.

At this point it's really easy tell who actually dislikes shows like GF or Steven Universe, and who just makes a big show of dismissing them because hating popular things gets you Internet Cool Points.

Anyway, hating on GF in favor of MLP is funny, since both shows share a supervising producer (Rob Renzetti) and creator Alex Hirsch not only knows Lauren Faust but visually based one of the main characters on her. A Mabel pony shows up in the official MLP comics and there's a GF episode featuring a dead-on parody of Celestia. These two shows are constantly making out whenever you're not looking. One day they will fuse into one, and then what will you do?

EvilHomer - 2015-11-02

What will who do? Whom are you talking to, Xenocide? It can't be me or Cena; we're both OK with Gravity Falls. He likes it a lot more than I do but, yeah, whatever, it's probably worth watching. In fact, I don't know anyone who hates GF! I'm sure they exist, but it's a hard show to hate.

For example: check out the sequence between 9:00-11:00. The animators make really good use of lighting, with dramatic shadows and lighting effects that you usually don't see in American cartoons. Even though the art style on its own is ugly and unappealing, because of detail like that lighting, the show still looks pretty cool!

RebSu and the Steven Poniverse crew should take notes.

Cena_mark - 2015-11-02

Steven Universe has a great attention to detail. It doesn't really show in super awesome animation, but its more in the writing. For instance in Steven and the Stevens, there's a time travel sequence, where they show scenes from past episodes, then they travel to a desert with a ship in it for a brief second. Four episodes later, in Ocean Gem, Lapis Lazuli steals the ocean.
Everything is thought out so well. Don't hate cause don't have Disney money.

I never watch this show but stars for Bill the Illuminati Symbol

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-11-01

I just found out the voice of Ford Pines is JK Simmons. That is so awesome.

Also, Bill rearranging all the functions of a rich capitalist's orifices. Note that Bill didn't say they were just the ones on his face.

infinite zest - 2015-11-01

I didn't really keep up on this show and now I wish that I had. This was better than any episode of Rick and Morty or any other animated stuff that I watch. Writing this feels so much better than any afterglow I can think of.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-11-01

The second season really kicked it up a notch by bringing Stan's twin brother back. I haven't seen a single episode of this show that didn't work for me. It doesn't get rid of the humor but it instills just enough drama and mystery in equal amounts to have a really well balanced little world. It's very original.

Bort - 2015-11-02

Not just Stan's twin brother, but Duck Detective's twin brother too.

GOWNS BY "PEPI"

infinite zest - 2015-11-02

I am still surprised that it's on the Disney Channel though, surrounded by, I dunno Dog With A Blog and Hannah Montana or whatever, and that a ratings board thinks that it's suitable for all kids over 7. But damned if I don't wish this show was around when I was 7.. I remember when the Simpsons was in early syndication a lot of the episodes, including the Halloween ones which are always pretty comically violent just got a TVY. Oh well..

I actually got to give out candy this year for Trick-or-Treaters at work this year, and amidst so many kids already dressed up as Star Wars characters from a movie that nobody's seen yet came along two little Dippers and Mabels, drenched to the bone in one of the rainiest days I can remember. I was like "ok you get an extra one, just make sure to go easy on the pixie sticks Mabel." Mabel 1 didn't get it but Mabel 2 did.

Cena_mark - 2015-11-02

The Smile Dip was from a very early episode. I'm sure Mabel 1 hasn't seen it yet. I recall seeing that clip here, and it getting me into the show.

Kabbage - 2015-11-01

Welp, it's down already. Submitted a replacement link though!

Xenocide - 2015-11-02

GF has really impressed me with how its combined classic-era Simpsons style humor with a slow-burning plotline that's been steadily picking up steam for three years now. I really can't think of another kids' show like it. It's a damn impressive piece of work. I'm kind of shocked that Disney of all entities is allowing this show to happen.

Bort - 2015-11-02

I've been surprised at how good Disney's offerings have been for like 15 years now. Stuff like "Kim Possible" or "Fillmore!" may not be your cup of tea, but they were well-written by people who clearly wanted to produce a good cartoon, not just something that the little SOBs will watch because there's nothing else on.

Probably the pitch on GF was "a teenage brother and sister learn valuable life lessons in a town full of wacky hijinks", and not so much "Lucifer's brother Bill is trying to break through to our reality and destroy all that is good". The show is both, of course, and the horrific elements are kept just funny enough that Disney is probably not fielding too much hate mail, typed on actual paper via manual Smith-Corona typewriters.

BHWW - 2015-11-02

We all know Gravity Falls is all about putting Illuminati symbolism in children's' programming, at least according to this one guy I saw making the argument on a forum, and that if parents were blind to this and were cool with the "Fascist-Corporate Occultist Military-Industrial Complex" beam mind-programming ritual symbolism directly into their kids brains then, there was no helping them.

Cena_mark - 2015-11-02

I'm sure the creators of this show enjoy mocking or trolling conspiracy culture. There's one episode where Gideon says a magic spell which involved backwards audio. And played backwards it said, "Backwards message, backwards message, backwards message."

EvilHomer - 2015-11-02

The funny thing is, Gravity Falls *IS* all about putting Illuminati symbolism in children's programming. It's not even subtle references, either, like the checkerboard floor motif during Corey Feldman's appearances on Howard Sterns; they are blatant, intentional, completely unambiguous Illuminati references. The animators know exactly what they're doing and why they're doing it.

Cena_mark - 2015-11-02

It also provides a good visual theme. Conspiracy theorists like to point out how many eyes, pyramids, and stars appear in corporate logos, and say its a conspiracy. Its not a conspiracy, they're just universal shapes that get people's attention.
