It's funny, seeing the reaction to this kind of thing from outside of the Republican/Conservative sphere now. I've heard right-wing people say things like this fairly often when in like company like it was nothing.

I know the term "echo chamber" gets used a lot but it's still really apt. They don't realize how crazy this shit sounds to non-right-wingers until they step outside of that chamber.

Well...they don't realize it after getting the reaction, but they now know that saying that will get this kind of reaction, anyways.

If only Pakistan had used stricter gun controls in the late 1980s, we wouldn't have the Taliban today.

My grandmother smuggled supplies to the Italian resistance. She knew commies and all kinds of various political types who had problems not only with Mussolini but with Hitler and fascism and all of it. She hid her brother and father from the fascists in order to keep them from being conscripted or sent to death camps. And she saw her city bombed to death by the US for her trouble.

They had guns, numb nuts. You know what the Nazis did when two of my grandmother's friends decided they were going to kill a few Nazi officers? They managed to kill two Nazis and the Nazis, in retaliation, lined up those guys' mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters and publicly executed them. Guns don't do a lot of good against a brainwashed public, or later, against a public too scared shitless to do much to help you.

What's fucked up is the Republicans keep debating a position no one is certainly not the democrats. Nobody' wants to just disarm everybody. None of these arguments about guns being outlaws, and only outlaws having guns, is applicable.

I remember when there was a mass shooting in Binghamton, so close that my house appeared in the Google Map photo of the scene that was printed by USA today. Jiverly Wong took2 automatic rifles into the offices of some charity and killed 12 people before taking his own life.

And people kept saying that if Wong hadn't had the guns, he could have just killed everybody with a knife or a baseball bat. Seriously. If you're going to club 12 people to death, they'd better be willing to hold still. And unless you're in great shape, you might need to catch your breath.

I don't like guns, but I've been against gun control most of my life, because Benjamin Franklin, those who choose safety over liberty, yadda yadda. But these gun nut arguments are horrible, and getting worse. Archie Bunker got big laughs 40 years ago opposing gun control with logic that sounds weirdly like Wayne LePierre.
