This mostly looks like normal driving

Monkey Napoleon - 2015-10-15

Same here. This guy is internalizes it too much. He's created this whole narrative where the bad drivers are bullying him like there's some other kind of option but to let people who cut you off into your lane.

Also, it's legal to pass on the shoulder/parking lane in Montreal? He does it too. That seems inherently unsafe.

Ugh, it's 5am and I've had too many reefers.

Hi, thanks for the comments

Good question about the passing, MonkeyNapoleon

Here you can only pass on the right if you're going around a left-turning vehicle. As far as using the parking lane, it's illegal to drive in the parking lane or use it to pass. However, since it's illegal to park closer than 5 meters of the intersection, there's a cushion of 5 meters on each side of the intersection where no parking is allowed, and so you are allowed to use that to pass a left-turning vehicle

Complaining about Montreal is the only full-time job most Montrealers will ever have.

chumbucket - 2015-10-15

I've driven in Montreal several times and can attest to the bad driving habits but I've seen a lot of this down here in the States as well. A lot of Montreal's problems stem from how poorly they set up traffic guides, such as lane markers! I recall first getting dumped into downtown and having no clue what lane I was in, or if I was in a lane at all. People where just driving every which way as if it was downtown Hanoi at rush hour.

I am tempted to get myself a dash cam as I am amazed at how many stupid drivers I've seen over the past year or so.

Also, those lanes in Burlington have now been marked with a sign a good 1/4 mile before the intersection, for the last year or so. I still see tons of out of staters doing the last few yard shuffle like that.

Having spent a fair amount of time in Montreal I would say the driving is on par with most cities. Over here in Baltimore the drivers are ultra aggressive and fast. It's worse in DC. The only negative thing I would say about Montreal is that the people are generally rude; they also don't like Americans too much.

chumbucket - 2015-10-15

I'm not so sure about the not liking Americans part. I go up there often and have noticed people up there treat me very well and are very forgiving of how little French I know. Much better than say about 10 years ago or so.

This Hannibal Buress story is about all I know about Montreal,

https://youtu.be/v9XotJPwmNc

which isn't good from a Black American dude's perspective around 2012. It's a funny bit but sadly very prophetic as well if you listen to the whole thing.

At least Montreal has an urban sprawl of sorts, Portland put in urban growth boundaries laws back before people started moving flocking to Portland so eeryone be squished. Watching this is like a fun road trip for me and I want to go to Montreal now!
