yay Can

If this is from the 2 DVD + CD set that came out around a decade ago then disc 1 is amazing and disc 2 (about the stuff they were up to at the time) is pretty skipable. The drummer is the only one who seemed to be doing anything that interesting anymore, but he works so slow that his multi-drummer band formed in 1982 and didn't complete heir first album until around 2004.

Can always gets 5, though. In a sane and just universe, they would be as big as Radiohead (who frankly should be paying Can royalties every time anyone buys Kid A).

Czukay's still doing things, I think, but I can't remember which album it was that I had. Whichever one it was, it was really good.

That's good to know, he pretty much WAS Can as far as I'm concerned but I don't remember hearing any of his stuff on that disc. Mostly I remember Irmin Schmidt having a duo where he played classical piano over big-room house beats.

The Malcolm Mooney stuff was always my favorite, Monster Movie and ESPECIALLY Delay 1968. But if you want to talk about people who aren't doing god work anymore, my god. Maybe his paintings are good but Malcolm's "weak poetry over hip hop beats that sound like a commercial from 1990" thing is just depressing. Yoo Doo Right is easily in my top 10 favorite songs ever, though, and his singing has a lot to do with that.

I don't know if I'm going to watch this, but I have a feeling I'll become a fan after I put this on in the background tomorrow.
