The film is now "officially" out and can be rented from Vimeo for .99.

It is 2 hours and 36 minutes.

baleen - 2015-09-24

I bet if you were the kind of person who liked Zeitgeist you would probably sit through this bullshit.

Old_Zircon - 2015-09-24

He still doesn't understand how the word "cohort" works, I see.'

There's a masochistic part of me that kind of wants to watch this whole thing, but I'm sure not going to pay money for it.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2015-09-24

Agreed. Hopefully someone will upload it so we can all watch and comment on it for free. I just took a peek at Aurini's channel and there's not one mention of the release of the SA in his most recent uploads. I know these two haven't been getting along but did Jordan say fuck it and released it himself?

StanleyPain - 2015-09-25

There are reviews for it here and there, as well as clips.

In summary: the film is basically nothing but narration lecturing you on the point of view of anti-feminists with nothing countering it at all, interspersed with long interviews with people who mostly have nothing to do with video games in any way, shape, or form expressing an anti-SJW/anti-feminist/anti-Sarkeesian sentiment with nothing at all countering or responding to it. Two of the longest interview segments in the film are with Paul Elam, the head of Voice For Men and with GirlWritesWhat, a rather infamous female MRA on YouTube. Neither of whom have any connection to the games industry at all. The segments aren't even really interviews so much as extended diatribes against feminist that largely have nothing to do with video games or any of the issues Sarkeesian raises in her videos.
Jack Thompson is interviewed for the film in order to fallaciously attempt to suggest that Sarkeesian is like Thompson in that she wants to ban and/or heavily censor all games that she finds offensive, which is of course utter nonsense and she has never expressed anything remotely approaching that viewpoint (whereas Thompson actually has). For the amount of money that was used to produce it, the film looks like some kind of rough-cut, proto-student project.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-09-24

I do have to say Sarkeesian's latest video, "Tropes vs Women in Video Games: Women as Reward," kind of threw me off.

I still agree with her message. The video focused on the way players could earn things like sexy costumes for female characters or even the chance to simulate sex with them by getting achievements, completing goals or even just paying for DLC.

That said, I think she kind of shot herself in the foot by showing all the nudity and sexy costumes. She could have at least pixelated things out. In some cases, she even gave specific detailed instructions for how to unlock the stuff.

It was kind of like, "Isn't it degrading to women how you can see this character's tits by collecting all the pieces of this statue in these places that I'm showing you now? Actually, never mind finding the statue. Here are her tits."

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-09-24

How could she, of all people, forget that her audience is terrified of nudity?

baleen - 2015-09-24

The essential problem with competitive feminist criticism as a sport is that you have to co-opt the experiences of the creator and the fan in order to make a greater point about whatever gender framework you've decided to create.

I feel this was very necessary to do in the 1970's and 80's, but at this point it's just a way to make a sale.

I had an all-female film teaching staff, all feminist, and they would sort through horror films and film noir looking for pro-feminist messages and heroes. I certainly learned more about Dorothy Arsner than any human being should ever have to know. The perfect example of the "ism" co-opting a particular narrative because the others have already been taken.

In short, there are too many gender studies grads and not enough to material to warrant them.

Ryo-Cokey - 2015-09-24

I care pretty much nothing about Sarkeesian, which makes it difficult, because, at least if I cared a little, I could possibly care less than that for these guys.

Potrod - 2015-09-24

Someone here linked to a couple tweets of her reacting to the latest Doom trailer at e3, and it was pretty much exactly how I'd expect my mom to react to the original Doom in 1993. Just kind of comically out of touch.

StanleyPain - 2015-09-25

She avoided making the videos too offensive or racy early on and basically her critics all accused her of never showing the sexist things she was talking about because if she did it would make her look foolish or prove she was always taking things out of context, so she said from now on she would actually show footage of specifically what she was talking out and just put a "this might bother some people" warning people on the videos.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-09-24

All of this video game social justice bullshit is going to end up being the 21st century version of political talk radio.

EvilHomer - 2015-09-24

It already is, Cam. It already is.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-09-24

Somebody PLEASE tell me that poor dog wasn't actually forced to watch that shit.

Gmork - 2015-09-24

Leave your overly-sensetive sensibilities out of my violent subversive videogames.

blue vein steel - 2015-09-24

How could something be worse than Zeitgeist?

blue vein steel - 2015-09-24

the little that i saw in this answered by question
and that was supposed to be a response to baleen

Raggamuffin - 2015-09-24

For the fake "voice over guy" voice

NewHeavenSockman - 2015-09-24

it really needs to be restated that one of the two behind this scene bemoaning the end of creativity was also behind this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3LHUKpt9-w4

Old_Zircon - 2015-09-24

Oh shit, I hadn't seen that. Thank you!

yogarfield - 2015-09-25

In which he stars as Virum Ultimatum. I have no idea how this fool takes himself seriously.

I'm saving that one for when I have popcorn.

yogarfield - 2015-09-25

really recommending the above link. there is a FIGHT SCENE.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2015-09-25

Nice!

Kabbage - 2015-09-25

Amazing.

15th - 2015-09-24

I take issue with an individual that takes issue with particular video games. This is my cause, my work. Holy shit, this is so stupid.

EvilHomer - 2015-09-24

That's a cute doggie! Arf arf

EvilHomer - 2015-09-24

Bully breeds are the best.

Boomer would probably be interested in this, but I found the original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru21ai9GkrI

There are more videos of Quyt the Dog on that channel, too!

Macho Nacho - 2015-09-24

I dunno I think looking into some of the "Anti-GamerGate" groups hypocrisy would be more interesting. Just look at Sarah Nyberg/@srhbutts.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2015-09-24

Really both sides are awful hypocrites I wish would just shut the fuck up already about things that only matter because they can't stop making it matter. I'm slightly more SJWy all things considered but yeah...

Sudan no1 - 2015-09-25

Spotted the GamerGater.

I liked Sam Seder's response to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHL1y00lPMY

Ryo-Cokey - 2015-09-25

I'm kind of wondering if Nyberg used to post on PoE (original.)

I'm pretty sure I stopped by FFShrine at least once, back in the day.

Macho Nacho - 2015-09-25

I am with you unmerciful, both sides are awful and try to prove to each other how un-awful they are, but I do like watching the shit show sometimes to see what phony outrage they are having.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-09-25

The whole thing is an awful symbiotic relationship between two of the most insufferable groups of people that the Internet could spawn.

yogarfield - 2015-09-25

oh

my

GOD this guy is so fucking boring.

Jack Dalton - 2015-09-25

I agree with Sarkeesian's arguments about the representation of women in games, but I do not find her particularly novel or interesting. The reaction she received was certainly interesting (and affirming of her point of view). Video games remain the most antiquated and misogynist form of media. Developers are rarely rewarded for nuance, and there is the notion that pandering shamelessly to male fantasies results in better sales. It could be a diversity problem with game companies. It could also be bad market research-- a lack of recognition that there are more women gamers, almost as many as men. However, there have been positive developments in how women are portrayed in games, which have led to the entitled "anti-feminist" rage of the gamer gate guys. The irony is, game companies are not seeking political correctness-- the market is finally starting to conform to gamer demographics. And these guys are reacting like most entitled assholes who think that an entire entertainment industry is suppose to cater to them because-- I don't know-- they are white men I suppose.
