This whole thing is amazing. Dumb question though: is this fan fiction or are these real books? Most of them seem to be about 2 and a half hours, which is about right for short novelizations on tape like Karate Kid and such.

"Real" or not it's still one of the most awesome channels I've ever discovered thanks to this here site. Thanks for giving me days of getting-to-sleep material!

They're all real books. The project's creator has a large collection of them. Interview with the project's creator: http://www.westword.com/arts/audiobooks-for-the-damned-lets-you-wa tch-your-favorite-cult-films-with-your-ears-7128086

This is the first time I've ha a bit of interest in listening to an audiobook (not counting Wizard People of course) since I spent a year editing audiobooks back in 2013. Shit after that I didn't want to listen to ANYTHING for quite a while. I still don't really listen to music very often, which sucks because I listened to it all the time before.

Maybe this will cure me.

infinite zest - 2015-09-15

Wow that's cool! Not the temporary death of music and listening to things, but the work itself. Like, I guess I always assumed they were recorded the same way an animated show is. If you fuck up something, you re-do it on the spot, and since it's verbatim the reader and recording crew are basically the on-site editors, unlike an actual book that has to be carefully perused for typoes and such.

In my mind that sounds like an awesome gig, but the more I think about it (for as long as it took me to write this) the more it sounds horrible. You'll probably notice my typo (hidden somewhere in here) in less than half a minute, but having to read this out loud and listen to yourself speak.. zoinks!

The Mothership - 2015-09-14

Imagine being the voice actor. Seriously, just imagine reading 10 and a half hours of this, professionally. She probably read it 3x or 4x as practice before doing the whole thing.

Aelric - 2015-09-14

No, I think this is one take. There are TONS of stumbled words, re-read lines and awkward pauses. Looking at the youtube channel, I'm fairly sure this is someones silly comedy art project.

infinite zest - 2015-09-15

Yeah.. I think I answered my own question above when I looked up the website; this is definitely comedic writing and not based off a novel, but as far as silly art projects go, this is one of the best silly art projects ever conceived.

Aelric - 2015-09-15

No, I meant the reading is the silly art project. The novel totally exists there is an ISBN number for it: http://terminator.wikia.com/wiki/The_Terminator_%28Frakes_novel%29

Holy shit really? I fell asleep to it last night but 10 hours for 240 pages seems like a stretch, given that she's reading at a fairly "normal" read-out-loud speed. Then again I had to look this up but Infinite Jest is 56 hours and is 4.5 times the size, so I guess it makes sense.

Some parts are just so absurd that I assumed it was Fan Fiction, but maybe the early novelizations of Hollywood movies were the original FFs. I just started T2 and I really can't wait for the red haired guy from Salute Your Shorts' backstory. Please don't disappoint me. Also please include a history of Public Enemy and Guns and Roses, and the details of the flower lady T-100 bought those roses from while you're at it!

Quad9Damage - 2015-09-15

Holy shit. I haven't even listened to this yet and five holy shit stars for the channel. They've got 'The Jerk' audiobook posted of all things. I hope they find 'Bingo.'
