GoPros are the future of gladiatorial combat.

Something about this irks me.

It's a neato, if ultimately pointless, alternate-reality type game that I want to believe isn't part of some marketing campaign.

"We put a live-action FPS on chatroulette and you'll NEVER BELIEVE people's genuine reactions!!"

I watched the 'making of' feature and I'm still not convinced either way. A decent amount of manpower, tech, and coordination went into making this. Why? Why this?

I guess in the end it doesn't matter whether it's an ad, as long as the video is somehow interesting and fun. But it seems like, if not a wasted opportunity, then... why produce THIS idea? The end result is somehow frustrating and... irksome, like your friend's series of artsy black-and-white photographs of stone bridges in Vienna. "They're great, man. You really framed the rusted bicycle nicely."

"Thanks."

On the other hand, it's no worse than any number of similarly-budgeted indie short films, and at least this use of tech and live coordination is inventive. I'm not sure why it's bothering me. It's a haunted house on skype. Fine.

Four stars for blandly confusing.

The first person video chat zombie adventure is already there in your backyard. All you have to do is remove the pieces of marble that don't belong.

infinite zest - 2015-08-22

What's confusing to me is that people still use Chatroulette.

urbanelf - 2015-08-22

How much of their footage is just them waiting for a penis to tell to pick up the crowbar?

That guy - 2015-08-22

I wish someone has used this to just do stupid stuff with the game:

"Pick up the crowbar!
Drop it!
Pick it up again!
Drop it!
Pick it up again!
Drop it!
Pick it up again!
Drop it!
Pick it up again!
Drop it!
Pick it up again!
Drop it!
Look straight up!
Jump 3 times!
Spin around clockwise while jumping!:

"The zombie's waking up, what do I do"

"Stand over the zombie!
Repeatedly squat on it!
Keep squatting, no matter what."

...and just never even leave the first room.

infinite zest - 2015-08-22

Yeah I'd love to see everything that fell to the cutting room floor. If these guys ever release the unedited version then it'll get my fifth star. For now, That guy gets it.

SixDigitDebt - 2015-08-22

Cool concept.

I wonder how many cock cams they had to go through for this.

Killer Joe - 2015-08-22

IS YOUR DICK A BAD ENOUGH? DUDE!?!
This is fun, and I can't wait for marketers to turn this into their next shitty campaign to drink shit beer!

Chocolate Jesus - 2015-08-22

nah

That guy - 2015-08-22

"Stand over the zombie!
Repeatedly squat on it!"

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-22

Their back yard? Where do these people live, Versailles?

infinite zest - 2015-08-22

In the making of video I think he said they rented out a church; maybe "back yard" just means somewhere out in the country near where they live. Or maybe they live in an old church. I knew someone who lived with a bunch of other other people in an old abandoned church back in the 90s, sort of turning it into a co-op. It was a lot cheaper than renting a studio apartment, apparently.

This would be a fun place to play laser tag as well. As for the concept, it's really well thought out. I actually had a similar idea right when skype came out for mobile devices. Basically it was like a Return to Zork text adventure but you just speak where you want the person to go. In the meantime apps like Ingress came out, which make a lot more sense, so it never really evolved beyond a little thought in my head.

BiggerJ - 2015-08-22

They live in that church. It's somewhere in Britain.

Tom Baker: "Britain, Britain, Britain: 1v1 me scrub, I'll fight you in real life you KSing faggot."

baleen - 2015-08-23

Such anger from this community. Such anger.

Nominal - 2015-08-23

Chocolate Jesus: "It's just me being Chocolate Jesus." *FART*

Old Zircon: "Hold up this can't REALLY be someone's backyard! That officially demotes it to "meh"."

Everyone else: "Okay maybe this was people just legitimately having a good time producing a fun video, but POSSIBLY AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE it could be used for advertising purposes so I will beat those evil advertisers to the punch by lowering my rating. I am such an insecure tool that I let paranoia of being influenced by advertising run my entire life, ironically letting advertising influence me far more than your average sheeple."

chumbucket - 2015-08-24

"Community"? More like assigned ward.

baleen - 2015-08-24

If this was an advertising gimmick or any kind for GoPro or for some video game or anything then who gives a fuck. That just makes it more genius. It means these people figured out how to do something fun, relatively harmless (they aren't selling Nestle water or rainforest hamburgers or As Seen on TV landfill or whatever) and get paid for it, which is fine. Most advertising is awful and shouldn't exist. If someone can make it genuinely amusing then good for them.

This little project actually made me smile. If I find out it was faked I'll still be impressed the artfulness of it. Good for them for doing something. Beats watching anime all day.
