The weird thing about this masterfece is that the musical numbers are terrible, but they're really well done. There's a lot of precision in the synchronized moves.

This seems like a movie I need to watch. But it doesn't really remind me of Ken Russell outside of the Daltrey-flexin' protagonist.. then again it's been at least 10 years since I watched Lisztomania and I didn't even finish it.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-04

I haven't seen all of it but I see details in the costumes and art direction that are lifted from Liszt-o-Mania in nearly every scene. There's plenty of Tommy in there too, of course, but I don't catch that as well because Tommy is kind of awful so I only watched it once. Unlike Liszt-o-Mania, which is fantastic.

But then there's this scene, that plays lie a cross between Can't Stop the Music and Grease:

Basically it's an amalgam of all the worst things about 70s musicals.

Lurchi - 2015-08-05

don't forget the Sgt Pepper movie, a clear influence

If anyone wants to see this but is uncomfortable with idea of watching it straight, there's a Rifftrax version. Also, I had forgotten that Vladek Sheybal was in this (once a famous character actor, probably best known for From Russia With Love)

HOLY FUCK!

I saw this on TV late one night when I had a horrible case of stomach flu and couldn't sleep. I thought I hallucinated it or that my fever-scorched brain had warped my perception of it in some fashion.

Apparently, it had not.

...Does it end with a guy driving out of the sky in a white limo and all the hippies following it as he drives it back to the clouds?

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-04

More or less.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-08-04

Holy shit! That means this movie is literally indistinguishable from delirium.

I also thought I saw Black Sabbath performing "Iron Man" projected onto the ceiling that night.

oh my god

my ex-girlfriend's dad was friends with this guy. he came to LA and dad picked him up from the airport and during the course of conversation referred to LA as a "bimmy town". Bim, apparently, was what old duffers like him called hashish residue back then. At any rate, this guy when bananas over the word, which led directly to the song in the movie containing the refrain "HEY HEY HEY! BIM'S THE ONLY WAY!"

first girl i ever sexed in the pooper
