Really kicking myself for not seeing this in the theater, even though I knew it was good from word of mouth, but seeing it alone in a darkened living room on a summer night might have been even better.
That's pretty much exactly what did it for me, yeah :) Under the Skin is fucking brilliant, and I honestly think better music than It Follows, much as I love Disasterpeace, but it's so far off from what I think of as "horror film music" (and the movie so far off from horror, maybe even from SF?) that I end up thinking about it like Kubrick's Penderecki and Bartok needle drops.
That said, one thing I love about Under the Skin: if you read interviews with Mica Levi, she talks about one of her major inspirations for the score being strip club music, and yeah, it's in there. That weird lopsided faintly arrhythmic hip-shaking thing in tracks like "Andrew Void."
