"Uranus." Tee hee.

StanleyPain - 2015-06-21

This game was weirdly marketed as some kind of killer PSX app or something. Even by the PS standards of the time it was pretty mediocre if not outright terrible.

Sanest Man Alive - 2015-06-21

Yeah, I always got the feeling if Phil Hartman hadn't been killed, this game would not be nearly as sought-after as it is.

infinite zest - 2015-06-21

I remember reviewing it and I still have a lot of swag and press releases and stuff around somewhere; they really wanted a favorable review so I remember it being kinda fun but mostly for the voices. I think I compared it to Gex in that Hartman's performance outweighed the game itself. It's kind of like having Daniel Day Lewis in a movie. Doesn't matter what it's about, it's just Daniel Day Lewis the movie.

Xenocide - 2015-06-22

It's a relic of that brief era where game publishers thought sticking a celebrity in a mediocre game equaled quality.

Good thing we've moved past that today. Press A to pay your respects to Kevin Spacey.

infinite zest - 2015-06-22

Some of them were good though; Apocalypse would've been good with or without Bruce Willis, and Gex probably would've beaten out Mario and Sonic if 3DO had been more successful.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-06-22

I remember this. Blasto was the most strangely aggressive marketing campaign of any video game since Sega built its Genesis entirely out of cocaine and father issues.

infinite zest - 2015-06-22

Yeah. I have so much Blasto stuff somewhere in my parents' basement. I also had a very unfinished version of the game with someone else (probably just someone who worked there) doing the voices, trying to sound like Hartman, but I had to send it back. Hartman's swan songs may have been a mediocre game and movie, but at least they are remembered as dedications. If I recall The Simpsons didn't really do anything at the beginning of their new season, just kind of wrote out the little PSA parts that Troy McClure would be doing with dumb replacements like Phony McRingRing.

gravelstudios - 2015-06-21

Doesn't it just bleed 90's.
By the way, with what is the PS4 backwards compatible? Does it work well?

Rafiki - 2015-06-21

Nothing. It's not backwards compatible at all. Different hardware architecture. They (Sony) might eventually try to emulate games in digital downloads, but you can't take any PS1-3 games and play them on the system.

StanleyPain - 2015-06-21

I'm sure now that the XB1 is going to start doing backwards compatibility (basically by running a 360 emulator on the system) Sony is frantically trying to figure out a way to do it too.

Potrod - 2015-06-21

Emulation of PS1, and I'd imagine even PS2, must be trivially easy by now. There was a PS1 emulator for Dreamcast, there have been free PSX and PS2 emulators for PC for years.

BiggerJ - 2015-06-21

Earlier, Sony said they were planning to make it possible to buy and download emulated PS1 and PS2 games and stream PS3 games via the Gaikai service they bought. Even earlier, they said the same thing except PS2 games would be under Gaikai.

gravelstudios - 2015-06-22

Guess I'll have to really take good care of my old PS2 then. Fortunately, I didn't get one with a shoddy disk drive. It still runs great. I got the smaller PS3 which doesn't run PS2 games at all, and I wasn't impressed with the way PS1 games looked on it. I currently have no plans to buy any new consoles anyway. I'm done with Final Fantasy, and the only way I'd get a Wii U is if they released an amazing Metroid game for it, which they don't seem to be planning on. There are no other franchises that I care that much about.

infinite zest - 2015-06-22

XBone's doing it now too? That's been sort of a dealbreaker for me when considering getting one (that and I wanna see if the price drops) but I want Fallout 4. The idea of having two systems hanging out, both of which are sort of everything-but-kitchen-sink just seems silly, not to mention fire-hazardy if they're both running at the same time.

crap, supposed to be a reply to graveystudios

infinite zest - 2015-06-21

Don't you wish posting on Poetv was backwards compatible too sometimes?

Prickly Pete - 2015-06-21

Holy shit I had no idea it was this awful.

Void 71 - 2015-06-22

I felt ripped off after renting it and copying it to a blank CDR

The Mothership - 2015-06-21

Does the dancing girl have a purpose?

cognitivedissonance - 2015-06-21

Is that Invader Zim?

somedongus - 2015-06-21

I just wish he had not been murdered. Is that too much to ask for?

themilkshark - 2015-06-22

Cartoonish video games with rape jokes before you even get to play... The 90's were fucked up.
