I remain astonished at the simple genius of guys like Warren Zevon, who can take a simple unadorned line like "keep me in your heart for a while" and elevate it to poetry. You could try very hard to be eloquent and never touch that.

When it's all said and done, Warren Zevon and Townes Van Zandt will be remembered as the two greatest American singer songwriters. I've been listening to Life'll Kill Ya a lot recently, an album of his I sort of neglected for years.

Zevon's also the only artist I can think of that literally did a swan song's worth of songs for his final album; he knew he was going to die and it didn't seem to bother him that much. And why should it?

That really is beautiful, but I can never listen to anything from Zevon without immediately needing to listen to Lawyers, Guns and Money 2 or 3 times.

Jeff Magnum's up there too though.. Personally I'd just start with "Live at Jittery Joe's" though this is not popular opinion.

Tuki here and as I stated earlier I have changed the password to the orcs account with the blessing of several of Zoe's closest friends in an attempt to stifle some of the venomous aggression coming from the actual street kids who surrounded Julia at the time of her death, I am assuming most of them are in New Orleans still as that area is notoriously sticky because of the relatively good money and cheap, fat foils of high grade dope. (shrugs) I don't know what to think, but the process of making this second video was so incredibly random that it feels like she collaborated. PLEASE NOTE: I'm not saying that's what happened, I'm saying that's what it feels like.

I made virtually no decisions. I don't understand how photos are organized in facebook, so I clicked around in confused circles downloading until I had what felt like enough photos. I used a renaming program to put them in completely random order. Did anyone notice how the ominous picture of the guy in the jason mask with a knife comes right at the end, second to last, as the last chord plays? Wish I could take credit for that. It just happened.

The most amazing thing was that song. Originally, before I realized she'd listed her favorite bands, I was gonna go with "Sweet Jane".
Zoe had something like four bands listed as her favorites. I didn't know any of them, though I'd heard the name "DANZIG" before. So I figured I'd have to do some searching. So to start, I picked a band at random, (Neutral Milk Hotel seemed like it might have the Velvet Underground vibe I was looking for.) I searched youtube, picked a title I liked and BOOM the fucking perfect song was the first song I tried, It was ten times better than what I was planning.

The upbeat tempo of the slides that goes so well with the music happened when I speeded up the video so it would run the same length as the song.

I'm still working on that tribute - I've scrapped it twice now - but I found myself listening to a lot of Johnny Hobo and The Freight Trains as I was working at it. I'm not sure if Zoe liked Johnny Hobo at all, but they're pretty popular with homeless kids from my part of the country; my IRL crustie friend used to follow them around, and their lyrics are quite poignant, particularly given the subject matter. I am just learning this now from the kids she was actually with who don't quite travel in the same circle as I do too aggressive and schwilly. She liked Birmingham and had a good friend there so it's very probable, Birmingham has a really good hop out that can take you to the cincy yard which you can take north or west

Really! I don't know what half of that means but now that she's dead, I have a weird sort of reverence for her. There's nothing you could tell me that could make me happier than hearing she watched my videos.

I don't know what a passive aggressive slap fight is. Let me just say this: There are moments in life that are so full of beautiful surprise that they make up for the disappointments, and this is one of those moments. What Tuki told me was an amazing surprise, and I never would have known about it if I hadn't taken it upon myself to do this. I'm not going to try again to wexplain how that makes me feel, but no boo-hooing is required. The best word I can think of is "awe".I'm not willing to discuss it further.

Gabe is ok, they split over Zoe's increasing alcohol and heroin intake and his decision to step away was pretty openly stated that he was not willing to self destruct with her, which miles was unfortunately more than willing to aid right down to wielding the knife that cut her down. I know Gabe recently got a couple changes to his face tats to include some memorial stuff which included him and at least three others getting ORCS under their left eye, I chickened out cause I have yet to take the face tat plunge but I got ORCS and ZOE on either tit. Avenues of entertainment and information are very limited on the road and I know for a fact that her involvement with this community offered a great deal of respite from the harder more unpleasant times.
