This is one of the few films that the Filthy Critic gives an unironic Five Fingers rating to:

http://www.filthycritic.com/

Apparently, this film is just very good at entertaining its audience with post-Apocalyptic shenanigans.

giygusattack - 2015-05-21

Yes, it is.

poorwill - 2015-05-21

I thought it was just okay. I liked Avengers 2 more.

ashtar. - 2015-05-21

I will fight you, poorwill.

MongoMcMichael - 2015-05-21

WHO WILL ANOINT THIS MAN?

yogarfield - 2015-05-22

So many of my friends said the same thing as ashy. Or rather, that they hated Mad Max and it set a low bar that Avengers could easily hop.

I just thought Mad Max was beautifully shot, had good callbacks, was horribly edited, and they were handed a very interesting angle of the wasteland that they absolutely shit the bed with: a Nordic cult with a dying king, and the commodity du jour is women, not oil. Also, a shoehorned love story.

About halfway through I went from thinking it might live up to the hype, to laughing my ass off at the stupid closeups and throwing popcorn at people who had dozed off.

Also I have no idea what the MRA's are up in arms about. I thought it was going to be juicy, but it turns out they're just being gigantic fucking babies once again.

Lurchi - 2015-05-22

Huh, I forgot about the Filthy Critic.

poorwill - 2015-05-22

It was a cross between Cirque du Soleil and Rob Zombie. Production is far too slick to buy into. Irritating 'my family is dead and spookily haunting me' bits. Some grrrrrreat action. There's really nothing especially feminist-y about it - that's just hype and MRAs being awful. Though considering how easy it could be to fuck up a movie about car chases and sex slavery I guess a pass is a win.

oddeye - 2015-05-22

It was basically a Michael Bay music video in the style of Mad Max. I actually found it quite boring by the time they reached where they were going, there are only so many explosions and dust clouds one can stand without having some plot thrown in there too.

TeenerTot - 2015-05-22

My buddy says the white-haired Bane-looking guy is played by the aviator's kid from the pre-boot. But I'm too lazy to look up the truthiness of it.

Potrod - 2015-05-22

I'm not too lazy to look it up and it turns out the white haired villain in Fury Road is actually the same guy who played Toecutter, the main villain in the first one, which is kind of interesting.

I thought it was okay. Not as good as any of the first three and Tom Hardy is weird.

crojo - 2015-05-22

It was pretty okay, but I watched Beyond Thunderdome again recently and other than its influence on the Fallout games, it can be forgotten forever. Not good.

Lurchi - 2015-05-22

If you do not like this movie you are fucking dumb.

1982: "I thought The Road Warrior was just okay. I liked E.T. more."

(this video is stupid though)

infinite zest - 2015-05-22

I'm gonna see it tomorrow in 3D and everything. I was talking to my boss who is really into good movies.. not like you guys aren't, but someone in real life who I can talk about good movies with and I sort of embarrassingly mentioned "well I'm gonna go see Mad Max" and he fucking creamed his pants about how awesome it was. For lack of another movie analogy, I think it's probably like appreciating a new Leonard Cohen record, no it's not Songs from a Room, but it's still fucking good and the production values are much higher. Plus it exists,

Lurchi - 2015-05-22

2D is better, believe me

infinite zest - 2015-05-23

Lurchi are you serious? I've only seen one movie in 3D and it was a John Holmes movie where the cum sort of shoots right at you so overall I think it's a dumb gimmick. But I remember people saying Avatar's a great movie, as long as you just ignore the stupid plot and pay the extra for 3D because there really wasn't anything like it. So I'm kind of torn whether I should just watch it in 2D like I'm used to, or if the 3D experience is worth the extra dollars.

magnesium - 2015-05-21

That mashed together really well.

I really need to see this movie.

Crab Mentality - 2015-05-21

The salty MRA tears only make this movie all the sweeter.

Crab Mentality - 2015-05-21

That wasn't meant as a reply, but whatever.

BHWW - 2015-05-22

I swear though, surely the need to bring up that guy who posted that thing at the Return of Kings site about how he's boycotting Fury Road is part of a long-term viral marketing campaign - the constant mentions of it make it sound like there's some vast organized campaign and not just a couple of PUA/MRA goofs who post on a website about various topics like how to hit on married women, troll Philippines dating sites, how much tail one of the top contributors has pulled even though photos show he's a fat, dumpy little guy with a bald head shaped like a thumb, etc.

The original MAX MAX, FEMINIST ROAD poster being a blogger/failed "economist" who appears to be one of those paranoid MRA's who, like some sort of bizarro versions of 70s radfems, see marriage as a TRAP and also SLAVERY.

magnesium - 2015-05-22

Hmm. I wonder how much Return of Kings would charge to write an article pretending to hate an upcoming movie/tv show/video game/comic book/etc. They've stumbled upon a niche market, here.

Lef - 2015-05-22

Have not seen the movie yet. This clip is pretty great.

oddeye - 2015-05-22

I hope you enjoy it
