"He has no other discipline on his record" can be taken two ways.

Sanest Man Alive - 2015-05-14

"No bondage porn on his hard drives"? That's pretty hard to believe.

fluffy - 2015-05-14

Okay, that's a third way I honestly hadn't considered.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-05-14

This is the sort of thing people were afraid of the NSA doing, but instead we're doing it to each other.

Xenocide - 2015-05-14

FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE ANIME MACROS

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-05-15

>>This is the sort of thing people were afraid of the NSA doing, but instead we're doing it to each other.

No, it's citizens watching the police. I am fine with that.

In fact, after sleeping on it, I have decided that I am fine with all of this. I'm fine with the officer being caught, apologizing, and being suspended for one day. I'm fine with the news team making it out to be a big deal, and I'm fine with most of you making it out to be nothing. To me, it all adds up to a moderate, appropriate response to what looks to me like a good cop doing a bad, but not terrible, thing. I hope it goes no further than this , so I can continue to be fine with it, but I suspect somebody is going to lose their fucking shit right about now.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-15

In all other industries, I'd be against this, because putting someone's career in jeopardy over a funny anime macro is straight up bullshit. But given the power that the cops claim over the rest of us, I'm willing to see them lose their privacy and get held to an unreasonable standard of conduct.

Maybe if *the cops* realize they're in trouble, then steps will finally be taken to ensure our freedom of expression is preserved.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-05-15

Whether these text messages are private is a separate issue. Apparently, because they're government communication, they're not. This is why the phones used were mentioned. If the cop had sent the message from his private phone to his boss' private phone, no one would have known, and apparently, it would have been considered no one's business.

It's like the scandal over Hillary Clinton deleting her emails, or using a private account, or whatever. Her government communications don't belong to her.

Y'know, last night I was taking a smoke break and there was a group of black dudes in the same general area of the parking lot. One of them asked me if I had an extra smoke, and I did, and his response was "thanks my nigga" to which I responded "no problem!" And that was that. I only hesitated for a second because I kind of wanted to respond "no problem my cracka" but not everybody gets my sense of humor. Point of that story is, well, there is no point.

badideasinaction - 2015-05-14

I was in Baltimore at one of my usual geek-themed conventions, and being the loser that I am I was wearing a Tigger outfit for it. A group of black guys attending the con approached, gave me the high-five signal and said "what up my Tigger?" and I reflexively returned the high-five and said "Tigger please".

They gasped, I had a very long half-second of wondering if I was in deep shit, and then they all laughed and we went our separate ways. In retrospect I probably shouldn't have done it, but it worked.

Gmork - 2015-05-14

Why shouldn't you have done it? You weren't saying it with hate in your heart. That's kind of the more important aspect.

If anything, witholding normal joking interactions from people BECAUSE of their race would be racist. So good for you, for NOT being racist and treating them like they are unable to be joked with - especially after having witnessed them using that exact play-on-words with you in an obviously joking manner).

I think they were just surprised that you did it without missing a beat, in a good way.

Gmork - 2015-05-14

errant parentheses, ignore that

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-14

Shouldn't have done it because "honky" would have been much better.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-05-15

>>Why shouldn't you have done it?

Possibly, not because it was morally wrong, but because it was socially risky.

>>If anything, witholding normal joking interactions from people BECAUSE of their race would be racist.

No, it would be cautious.

>>So good for you, for NOT being racist and treating them like they are unable to be joked with - especially after having witnessed them using that exact play-on-words with you in an obviously joking manner).

I agree. They would have been dicks to take offense.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-05-17

"Why shouldn't you have done it? You weren't saying it with hate in your heart. That's kind of the more important aspect. "

Finally something from Gdork that I agree with.

"If anything, witholding normal joking interactions from people BECAUSE of their race would be racist."

Man, you got a lot of pent up emotions there.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-05-14

I can't stop laughing.

SixDigitDebt - 2015-05-14

a text that's so offensive we can't even show fuck her right in the pussy

Sanest Man Alive - 2015-05-14

At least he didn't use a macro with Impact font. That one's starting to become the new Comic Sans for me.

Xenocide - 2015-05-14

Well, it's his own fault. If he wanted to celebrate without getting in trouble he should have shot a black teenager to death, as per tradition.

Nikon - 2015-05-14

This isn't news, and whoever was offended by this obviously joking message needs to stop being such a whiny diaperbabby.

Maggot Brain - 2015-05-14

can we tag this as "Robocop times?" Also this guy is a dumb ass, you don't send that to your boss, dumb ass!

Maggot Brain - 2015-05-14

Also "Officer Blunt"

Bobonne - 2015-05-14

Haha, oh wow. That image macro has been around for at least, what, 8 or 9 years? And I'm fairly sure it's 'Aw shit, nigga!', not even the full slur version of the word.
