this title is humorous to my palate

The good thing about an animated series is that you never have to worry about characters aging. You can hit the reboot button as long as the show is still on the air.

But sometimes your voice actors die. Other times they quit.

"The Simpsons" should have ended 16 years ago. This is what we reap.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-05-14

Lenny is popular because of this bit.

spikestoyiu - 2015-05-14

Super sike. Lenny's popular because Lenny's great.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-05-14

YOU FUCKERS HAD ME WORRIED SHEARER HAD DIED!

Don't do shit like that to me this early in the day.

Simillion - 2015-05-14

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-14

simon666 - 2015-05-14

Ditto. What a heart attack.

spicediver - 2015-05-14

"Last week the Fox network confirmed it had commissioned two more series of the long-running animated sitcom."

*sigh*

EvilHomer - 2015-05-14

Harry Shearer was notorious for mouthing off about how bad New Simpsons is, so maybe that's the news that prompted his retirement?

spikestoyiu - 2015-05-14

He's made it sound like he disagreed with the merchandising end of his contract.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-14

Yeah, merchandising would make more sense. While he's got tons of money, and is probably sick of his job, for 0k an episode I'd probably stick it out for another few seasons too.

boner - 2015-05-14

Heh. Yeah I can't think of anyone who cares less about the Simpsons than Harry Shearer.

Quad9Damage - 2015-05-14

The Simpsons has been on the air for almost 30 years. Eventually every living voice actor is going to retire and the show will implode on itself because Springfield will be completely empty.

Quad9Damage - 2015-05-14

In terms of "Simpsons" death and putrefaction, the Gruesomes moved in next door but moved out years ago; the house has long since been condemned. The Great Gazoo went back to Planet Zetox; it was invaded for his doomsday machine and he died during the war. Pebbles and Bam-Bam are buried next to each other; the grave is surrounded by all of their deceased children. Seth MacFarlane has canceled his reboot.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-05-14

I'd like to see how the writers would handle a dwindling cast of voice actors until there's only two or three characters left, one of which is Maggie.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-05-14

They could do it like that infamous "Garfield" strip where it was suggested Garfield was all alone the whole time and hallucinated a wacky world where he was surrounded by loving friends & family.

Quad9Damage - 2015-05-14

"Garfield Minus Garfield." It was Jon, actually.

chumbucket - 2015-05-14

Just bring back Poochie and end this thing.

Quad9Damage - 2015-05-14

It would be interesting—and by interesting I mean terribly sad and a black day for my begone childhood—to see a 'Simpsons' where there's virtually no one left. I'm picturing Sea Captain, Comic Book Guy, Professor Frink and Cletus carrying the show after all the voice actors have retired/died, including Cartwright, Kavner, Castellaneta and Smith.

In other words, Hank Azaria is performing alone in the studio. He's down to doing those four because all his other characters have been killed off in a slew of 'character dies permanently' episodes. There are no guest stars, no attempts at introducing anyone new to the cast - just Sea Captain, Comic Book Guy, Frink and Cletus having conversations and getting up to shenanigans every Sunday night.

crojo - 2015-05-14

No, it was just regular Garfield, Davis was just off his meds that week.

More info:

http://www.retrojunk.com/article/show/417/the-death-of-garfiel d

"In tone and imagery the storyline for this series of strips is very similar to the animation segment for Valse Triste from Allegro Non Troppo, which depicts a ghostly cat roaming around the ruins of the home it once inhabited. The strips have caused many fans to speculate that Garfield is currently starving in an abandoned house and all of the series occurring after the comics in question were insane hallucinations by the cat as he tries to keep alive"

Gmork - 2015-05-14

Chumbucket - that would be a fitting end.

Gmork - 2015-05-14

Skinner, burns, and flanders alone. This show is dead and the 5 stars is out of both happiness and sadness.
