That is a very nice Nakamichi, way better than my basic 2 head one.

Did you know there are pretty decent aftermarket calibration tapes for sale now?

Old_Zircon - 2015-04-22

Looks like the price went up 20 or 30 euros since I found them last fall. Should have bought one when I had the chance.

fedex - 2015-04-22

Thanks! This is actually a 2-head as well, that's why it's reasonably inexpensive now. The RX-505 is the higher-end 3-head version of the 202

I'm not such an audiophile I need calibration tapes though, but thanks for the arrow anyway. I just like to pretend I'm Mickey Rourke in 9.5 Weeks when I bring a date over and flip the auto-reverse incessantly until she leaves.

Old_Zircon - 2015-04-22

Weird, if that's the two head version then I used to have one (the transport controls were dead, I guess that was a common problem on certain versions of that particular model) and the actual door is completely different on yours. Must have been some kind of aftermarket customization.

Mine's the CR-1a, more or less the next generation of yours. I think the differences are mostly cosmetic.

Old_Zircon - 2015-04-22

I actually don't even listen to tapes, I just use it to make them.

Old_Zircon - 2015-04-22

Never mind, I was confusing yours with the BX-300.

Old_Zircon - 2015-04-22

Yours is much cooler.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2015-04-22

Noice

fedex - 2015-04-22

Thanks. Apparently this is the absolute high-end of the nakamichi line, I had never even heard of it until yesterday.

I've never heard of those, I thought the Dragon was the pinnacle of their production models. BUT I can up the ante, last fall when I was looking for calibration tapes someone was eBaying a one-of-a-kind deck that was used at trade shows to demonstrate their engineering - it was the transport mechanism completely unhoused, mounted in a glass cube with simple controls on a plinth below. It was up to about ,000 when I saw it. I can't find anything about it now.

zerobackup - 2015-04-22

,299.00 to listen to tapes? Seems legit.

Gmork - 2015-04-22

My teddy ruxpin is comparable to this system.

yogarfield - 2015-04-22

Neat. AND NOW WE KNOW WHAT YOU SOUND LIKE, MUAHAHA

fedex - 2015-04-22

A fool and his money are soon parted.

betabox - 2015-04-22

It is indeed a silly machine, but if it makes fedex happy, that's all that's needed.

fedex - 2015-04-22

I'm hoping Stanley was referring to the ,300 deck in the comments, as mine was only 0

Robin Kestrel - 2015-04-22

Still a viable format!

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-04-22

My brother has a victrola that can take cylindrical wax recordings! KEEP THE FAITH!

Binro the Heretic - 2015-04-22

Sweet!

fedex - 2015-04-22

I'll bet that was pretty!

fedex - 2015-04-22

Doh that was to Oz re: the ,000 tape deck

fluffy - 2015-04-23

I really don't get why this ridiculous tape reverse mechanism exists, but I enjoy that it does.

RedHood - 2015-04-24
