I like how when it turns off it sounds like a real person being pushed away from a microphone or something, and not at all robotic.

infinite zest - 2015-04-08 I should really go back and revisit this show. I was a little too young to get most of the references besides the obvious Crocodile Dundee (was Paul Hogan actually still popular when this was out) and pre-Governator Arnold. And it was still funny. But I do stand by my previous sentiment: I don't understand why people who hate Family Guy love The Critic. They're not the same show and The Critic is much better written, but the referential comedy is pretty much the same, just with different vessels (Jay Sherman = reviewing movies, Peter Griffen = mad libs).

StanleyPain - 2015-04-08 That's one of the little subtle jokes in the episode I love.

blue vein steel - 2015-04-09 @iz. The reason why the Critic held in higher regard than Family Guy is that Jay is a likeable character that the audience can attach their egos to. Peter isn't. The lead protagonist of FG has no redeeming character traits. By and large, humans think of themselves as inherently good, and you cant become attached to a character who has no consistent good qualities. The audience has no reason to support the protagonist and therefor no reason to care about the plot. Instead of just being a cypher for what ever topical shock jokes the writers think up, the protagonist of the Critic does have redeemable qualities that the audience can identify with (loves his son, enjoys his craft (if not the actual job), etc...) that are largely consistent from episode to episode. Jokes are written for the character. Peter's personality changes to fit the joke, there is virtually no consistency. Maybe he loves Lois? I guess that is the closest to a consistent redeemable character trait that Peter has, but even that is hardly consistent.

I never really got into The Critic that much at the time (I was more of a Dr. Katz guy). This is the only part that is permanently etched in my brain.

Dib - 2015-04-09 The more time that passes and the more I got into watching movies, the more I find relevance in the show.
