5 for the annotation at the end. I really want to believe that some people thought this was real. But poor kitty :(

Binro the Heretic - 2015-03-11

Again, this is why the GTA series stopped being fun for me at GTA IV.

Even though I know it's just a game, seeing realistic portrayals of terrible things is still kind of a buzzkill for me.

I want that cat to either jump up after a few seconds and run away or disappear to be replaced by a pile of cash and dead mice.

infinite zest - 2015-03-11

That's a good point. The last GTA I played was San Andreas and back then going on a rampage was just silly fun. And I will openly admit to hog-tying a prostitute and placing her on the train tracks in Red Dead Redemption. And then I felt bad and untied her. And then my guy got hit by the train anyway. It was this weird moral dilemma for me.

Hooker - 2015-03-11

I would have played GTA5 longer if I had an experience like this happen while I played.

Prickly Pete - 2015-03-12

I don't like GTA 5 because of stuff like this either, but for a different reason. It's because they spent so much time on stupid little details like this and not enough on making the missions fun.

Harveyjames - 2015-03-12

You think this is realistic? A cat wouldn't let a human get that close, OR run into the path of a car like that. This is cartoony as shit.

I don't know. This site once gave 5 stars across the board to a video of 50 people dying at Israeli wedding as the floor collapses underneath them, but a CGI cat is where the line gets drawn?!

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-03-12

Well, we know what's important, Harvey.

I should be more upset about this, but for the fact that a few months ago I stuck windows 98 on an old box so I could play Redneck Rampage. There I was, blasting away at old fido with a shotgun. All I could think of was EvilHomer for some reason (grin).

fedex - 2015-03-11

art imitates life, no?

craptacular - 2015-03-11

funny

craptacular - 2015-03-11

i meant to five star! why is there now a row of stars below the text box instead of above where they usually are? or am i running one too many firefox addons... hmmmm...

jreid - 2015-03-11

I think it's just you - they're above the box for me.

infinite zest - 2015-03-11

excuses excuses.. :)

I remember that happening to me too actually, specifically with Ubuntu and Firefox.. can't remember which build, but I switched to Chrome a long time ago because Firefox is homophobic.

StanleyPain - 2015-03-11

I just started playing GTAV on the Xbone and I had no idea that cats were in the new version and it scared the ever loving shit out of me. I was down in some runoff tunnell with homeless people or something and then this thing comes out of the shadows crawling at me....god damn, freaked me out something fierce. But it was just a cute kitty.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-03-11

It's not just a game anymore!

Gmork - 2015-03-12

Leave cats out of GTA. I dont even like that dogs are in there - except that sometimes the dogs (if they get you on the ground) can actually win - so often players can get their comeuppance. Cats have no recourse. Its just gonna fill youtube with shit id rather not see.

yogarfield - 2015-03-12

I've been supervising the Feline Fodder Account for 12 years, and let me tell you something: deny a young boy the right to kill digital cats and he'll turn out to be a homosexual... or worse.

infinite zest - 2015-03-12

So, you mean you can't get a bad scratch on your arm which gets infected if not treated and you wind up in the hospital or die halfway through the game? I do understand your point though: I'm sure there's kids (and adults) going around sniping cats and all sorts of other stuff. In real life, there was a series of outdoor cats found decapitated or eviscerated a couple of years ago and people thought the coyotes were coming around, no longer afraid of the train. Nope! Just a couple of middle school kids in a fairly middle class neighborhood. So I'd rather see the same kids do it in a game (I dunno.. maybe they just really hated cats) and get busted by mom walking in and seeing it and calling a behavioral counselor than to see them in juvenile detention or wherever it is they are now.

Most games have some enemy that's pretty easy to defeat, from Glass Joe to the Goombas in SMB to the head crabs in Half Life. And yeah, in HL2 people keep headcrabs as pets and they act pretty much like cats.

Quad9Damage - 2015-03-12

I liked interacting with Franklin's doggie. Fortunately he never darted into traffic or an oncoming RPG round in any of my games, so I never had to experience first-hand some of the Chop tragedies I read about online.

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-03-12

wow lot of balding hand wringers here eh? reddit was getting too aggressive or what?

Chocolate Jesus - 2015-03-12

Yeah, we need a pearl clutching tag on this one.

Quad9Damage - 2015-03-12

I guess I'll have own crazy stories about GTA V's cats when the game is finally released on PC June 2019.

Monkey Napoleon - 2015-03-12

You sure are optimistic. I'd put my money on "when EA finally announces in 2019 that the PC version was scrapped in 2017 after they acquired Rockstar even though they've been saying it's coming all this time"

Quad9Damage - 2015-03-12

"I'd rather have a game free of bugs on release day than a disaster like the GTA IV PC release."
"The issue is that they keep lying to us!"
"Are you one of the developers? Then you have no room to speculate on why it's being delayed."
"They keep changing the date and giving us little bonuses so we'll continue preordering!"
"They didn't HAVE to give you that $ 1,000,000 in-game money, you know!"
"I no long care about waiting for a game that's almost two years old."
"They didn't have to give you the extra $ 200,000 in-game money, either!"
"Lol gotta add more DRM amirite?"
"You're entitled to nothing!"
"Just give us quarters instead of specific dates!"
"Rockstar wants their customers to have the best overall experience. I love companies willing to take such risks to look out for their users. It brings a tear to my eye and a song to my heart."

~ Every thread whenever the date changes.

Mister Yuck - 2015-03-12

Don't bother buying it, the game is awful: the characters are unlikable, the city is tiny, and the countryside is a huge waste of space. I gave up after half the main story and I felt like I had seen everything.

Quad9Damage - 2015-03-12

I already bought and played through the PS3 version. It was fun with the exception of the torture mission and the fact that the game was nowhere near a new San Andreas like I'd hoped. I'm curious about how the PC version will look at more than 25 FPS and enhanced with better hardware. I'm also hoping the new diversions will put a fresher face on the actual gameplay.

IF it ever meets a deadline: reviews first (honest ones) and then maybe I'll wait for a Steam sale.

craptacular - 2015-03-12

I'm waiting on the summer sale too, hopefully this will be 50% off by then. Honestly though I'm a very patient gamer, I could easily wait til the Winter Sale this year and pick it up then. It's not a new San Andreas, which is precisely what I'm after... but I will be less disappointed when I spend on the game rather than on release.

chumbucket - 2015-03-12

Achievement Unlocked

RocketBlender - 2015-03-12

I really don't get why the entire internet is up in arms over this. Every gaming site I go to has it on their front page, with comments about how gaming is going too far, animal protection, etc.

Apparently people are fine with ventrillo harassment videos where kids are tormented by adults until they cry and quit the game they're on, but a fake cat getting hit by a fake cars is just too real to handle.

infinite zest - 2015-03-12

If the cats are programmed to run into the nearest street with a good chance of getting hit being the result, then it is a little fucked up on Rockstar's end. I haven't played the game so I don't know.

Quad9Damage - 2015-03-13

There's something about animal deaths that makes it harder to digest than human deaths. I've never been able to put the real reason into the right words, but it affects me as well. I can watch movies or play video games where people die and I won't even blink, but suddenly the family pet gets butchered and it follows me around all day.

I could play Red Dead Redemption and easily Dead-Eye the guy who stole my horse, but if I accidentally trampled a puppy I'd be berating myself from Armadillo to Blackwater.

I understand why people would be upset over this. What I don't understand is why they're only talking about it almost two years later, since the player has always been able to beat or shoot Chop.

RocketBlender - 2015-03-13

GTAV was just re-released on PS4 and Xbone (of course not PC yet, are you crazy?). Whereas people capturing moments like these was rare on the last wave of consoles unless they were set up to stream, now something like this can happen and you just have to push a button to upload the last 30 seconds of gameplay. That's why so many GTA clips have been popping up lately.

infinite zest - 2015-03-13

Killing dogs in games has been around at least since Wolf3D though. Granted, those dogs are attack dogs, but you're pretty much left with no option. When I first got RDR I was still familiarizing myself with the controls and saw the dog and hit the action button just to see what it'd do and I kicked the poor fellow right in the face. I felt bad but that dog chased me out of town and kept after me for a good game-mile. In gunfights I regularly accidentally shoot the horse (and if I remember correctly it will auto-aim on horses too) but that's mostly because I'm not very good at it.

What's kinda disturbing is that they included a cat death sound. And plus, Rockstar's other game (LA Noire) makes it virtually impossible to run down anyone unless you really, really, really try (according to Evilhomer; again I haven't played it). You'd think they could just program a cat to not get hit the way that I assume they do for certain NPCs vital to your mission.

Quad9Damage - 2015-03-13

In Postal 2 you could shove a shotgun up a live cat's asshole and use the animal as a silencer. There's a Steam Achievement for killing x number of dogs/cats.

RDR had an Achievement for killing one of every animal in the game. I wasn't up to unlocking it. The worst I did was gain a horse's trust and then we'd accidentally go sailing off a cliff. Goodbye, horse with upgraded stamina. At least its hide fetched a fair amount at the general store.

Harveyjames - 2015-03-23

I'm pissed that there aren't kids in the GTA games. C'mon, just one school!
