Protip: Don't take medical advice from anyone named Ms. Ki Ki

My dentist's legal first name is Magic. Dr. Magic Miller. I'm not making this up. Her sister's name is Mystic. They're just that kind of family, but she's a really good dentist.

Whaaa?

I noticed how marshmallows look a little like teeth so I made a mouthpiece out of marshmallows and I wear it every night to help guard and cushion my teeth. Take that, Big Dental.

Her gum treatment is pretty much exactly what dentists say to do in the first place, except without the tea tree oil. So, yay for a stopped watch being correct on occasion?

TIME IS AN ILLUSION, DUH

It's amazing how much woo-woo increases when the real-life solution to a problem involves pain, science, and (often) the dumb behavior that led to the need for medical attention in the first place.

Because of COURSE dentistry is a conspiracy to poison you with fluoride and X-rays...

1. Swishing oil around your mouth and an eggshell smoothie (which smells like dentistry!) will make stuff that doesn't grow back grow back and save you thousands of dollars and mouth drillings.
2. Not everyone does this.
3. In order to explain 2, you either reject 1 or your only option is a vast dental conspiracy.

For a bunch who claim to bow science, you guys sure are an unscientific bunch. All this woman is doing is rinsing with an antiseptic and taking mineral supplements. Science tells us that's good for your teeth.

Maybe the confusion comes from the title "Regrow", which implies spontaneous generation but that's not what is meant.

btw, Dentists are doctors but dentisry is not a science, most of it is barely medicine.

oddeye - 2015-03-04

She says she can feel the enamel regrowing in a little hole she had behind her top teeth or something....

but you are right, we seem to have a problem with her saying she can REGROW her teeth which kinda implies she is GROWING new teeth or enamel. How unscientific of us to focus on such a fantastical claim!

If only dentisry had used some sort of science to advance our understanding of the mouth and such so we might know if this lady is correct or not!!

Cruel fate, nevermore

Anything to get around dentists, I'm listening. I've become so incredibly jaded about general dentistry that I have refused to go for a regular cleaning in several years. I brush and floss twice a day and haven't had any major issues. Could my teeth be cleaner? Sure. Could my teeth be straighter? Always. But all I remember of the several dentists I've had over the years is how much money they needed from me because my teeth weren't perfect enough. Everything from adult braces to ridiculously expensive veneers was passed by me like some carnival ointment remedy. This on top of the years I had to pay them for the one root canal and crown I needed. I'm not going to dig another financial hole or subject myself to another parade of "recommended procedures" unless I absolutely have to.

So, you'd rather wait until your teeth are really, expensively fucked up before going to the dentist? Odd.

As for me, I have issues with my gums if I don't go for a regular cleaning. Yeah, it costs too much, but it's good to have teeth which will last a lifetime.

I found this as a related video on the toothbrush cat video.
