is it really old, or a weird, non-ATX form-factor/motherboard? Because, there are high-powered cards like this (2nd only to the 980 in nVidia's GPU hierarchy):

specifically for small, ITX style desktops. As long as your motherboard conforms to an atx/matx/itx form factor and you have a free PCI Express x16 (doesn't matter which generation), that will fit.

oh, and 5 stars for this game, although i don't see how it can possibly live up to my expectations.

This almost makes me want to get a PS4, but I said the same thing about Watchdogs. Like, I'd probably enjoy Watchdogs if I already had a system and could redbox it or whatever, but it takes something spectacular for me to spend money on a new system over bicycle maintenance and other things. This may be the one.

The distances are super short and there will be base-raiding type stuff going on, with heavy survival/resource gathering elements, so it might be fun but it also might be a headache. A beautiful headache.

Dont waste your money. Get a pc man!! you could get a decent gaming pc for a few hundred bucks.
Buy a decent 1 to 3 year old pc from craigslist for, lets say 0 (you just want something that has a CPU with 4 cores in it, or more), then also buy a big ass (but older) graphics card for about 0
Or just buy an older 2nd hand gaming machine with a big graphics card already in it. They depreciate fantastically so stuff thats only a few years old is dirt cheap and still really good and capable of playing all the games... Also you can use it to make music, videos, art, computer games, bizness stuff, do your internt shit, etc
If your too ethical to pirate photoshop and whatnot, you can put ubuntu on it and use all the free software on linux.
If you wanted your machine to be really fast and responsive you vould splash out and put an SSD or hybrid hard drive into it.
If your worried about swapping about components in a pc, dont. These days its like putting lego together and all the parts you would conceivably be changing can only fit in one way. So its impossible to install them incorrectly.

While your waiting you could play the myriads of amazing similar pc games, like starmade, minecraft (with mods for spaceships and planets and whatever you want) elite: dangerous, X3 and so on

I was just thinking, I imagine you being a sort of non-conformist punky type guy, but also obviously you are also all up in the internet a lot. You'd probably love linux! Being a linux user now feels like being an early micro pc adopter in the 80's. The scene is still cool as it hasnt yet been saturated with boring people.

PS4 buys you a blu-ray player (if you don't have one), a smart tv (of sorts) to use Netflix, Youtube, etc., and a chance to play some decent games, for a pretty low price. Is mostly maintenance free (except occasional updates, which you can run with the system at rest).

@ Adham Nu'man. You could do all that with a pc. TVs nowadays are just big computer monitors. A Blu-ray drive costs abour new. If you want the console feel you could put SteamOS on it, but *also* you could put windows and some other flavour of linux on it in order to be able to do other stuff!
I do admit it is more work than just buy it and plug it in, but where's the fun in that? You also get to learn a little about computers and feel like like a helpless consumer trapped in Sony or Apple or some other giant evil corps ecosystem.

Yeah I'm an Ubuntu Man and my laptop is a leftover from one of my old houses with a half-broken screen because somebody stepped on it. Solution? Plenty of places toss out old LCD monitors, sometimes with the vga cables still in. So it's a scraper computer just like my scraper bicycle. It's great for work but I've sort of gotten used to the fact that most games won't work. Back in the day I used to love upgrading PCs. My dad's office would upgrade their CPUs every couple of years, so I got a bunch of 286s and 386s that I could fiddle around with. If my living situation was a little more permanent then I'd totally get back into it. The place I live at now has a 360, which is used exclusively for netflix except for the random game I'll bring home. Like I'm still playing Red Dead Redempton! There's something fun about putting in a game and watching it work just like it should, but I miss the excitement of getting a game to work the way you had to with my old PCs.

:) I do want to invest though. Mine's too slow to play minecraft now with the updates and I just got a text from a friend who recently I only meet in minecraft land. I miss accidentally getting drunk and finding my avatar on top of the world. It's the gaming equivalent to the old shoelace and shaving cream trick.

Minecraft crawled for me until I could get a 64-bit install of Java running. Even with that, it's occasionally a memory hog. I dunno if they've made a computer yet that can fix Java's RAM hunger.

That REALLY is a thing of the past, pretty much. I mean, you don't have to screw with IRQs or anything anymore, so the only real tinkering challenge is getting older games to work with current-day OS's (though GOG.com pretty much has that covered). If it's a newer game, it'll either work or it won't, pretty much.

However, if you still want to tinker, there's always mods. If you've ever played Fallout, Oblivion, or Skyrim, go look at the Nexus site for each. You can spend hours trying to get a specific array of mods to work and not crash your machine.

I've been debating getting Skyrim for the house 360, but mostly because of the cool mods (yeah I want the MLP one) is that something you can do with a console? Making Doom wads or something like Duke3d's Build editor that'd crash my system was the best part of those games. I didn't do much research but most of what I found was like "PROOF THAT I CAN DO SKYRIM MODS ON XBOX 360" which immediately translates to "bullshit" to me.

Basically no, sure its technically possible, but pretty much anything is with computers if you have the time and expertise.
There are many reasons why I dont like consoles, but one of the main ones is that you have no choice or control over your own system or programs. Heres a quick list of the top of my head..
cant change OS
cant setup OS the way you like
cant upgrade or add new hardware, so limited useful lifetime.
Very limited choice of games/apps
Locked into a particular software provider / store, with no choice
Underpowered for the price
Cant be used for business or creative tasks
Cant write you own scripts or software for it

Also, I think, in the US jailbreaking a console (ie installing other OSes / getting root access on them) is actually *illegal* even though it is supposedly your property.

Same here. At a glance, it looks like the proper sequel to X3 that I've been dreaming of for the last seven years. Given the nature of hype and the state of games these days, I will assume it's going to be a failure of at least Spore proportions until I see a finished product.
