I'm not going to pretend like I don't love most of these songs but holy shit are they way off-base with just about everything here.
Five for the wigs.

Candlejackv616 - 2015-01-13 Before watching this, looking at the description, I thought "can't be that bad", it was and it was worth the watch. I was dying when Chains of Love popped up.

This is basically the play list of a local station I listen to (104.1 Jack FM). I didn't realize I was such a huge fan of punk.
All my stars for "Jeopardy" by the Greg Kihn Band.

infinite zest - 2015-01-13 I used to know one of those marketing dorks (even though he's a really nice guy), whose biggest claim to fame was signing The Knack to Capitol. He was part of the KROQ/Slash/Twintone scene and thought that The Knack might be a good babystep for punk to enter the mainstream. Not so much.

I love every one of those songs, except for maybe Jeopardy and Human (the WORST Human League song). This is hilarious though, great find!
|
spikestoyiu - 2015-01-14 It might be a tough sell at this point, but I'm begging you to re-think your stance on "Jeopardy" because it's kind of a great song. That synth hook (especially once it takes center stage during the breakdown, which is pretty hard), handclaps, a good solo, and of course that video, which creeped me the fuck out when I was a kid.
|
Jet Bin Fever - 2015-01-14 Ahh I can give it another shot I guess. The scariest video when I was a little kid was probably Everlasting Love by Howard Jones, because Mummies terrified me.
|
spikestoyiu - 2015-01-15 Howard Jones is also great. I don't remember that video though. I'll take care of that today.
|
Jet Bin Fever - 2015-01-15 It's realllly silly, mummies getting ice cream together and stuff. But the costumes and mummies walking around on streets just absolutely terrified me. I was terrified by the Electric Grandmother too though... and still am.

Love and Rockets, Nick Lowe and Devo are the only three bands on here that I'd associate with Punk.

Punk as fuck

I never noticed before how hard Bowie ripped off the hook from "Human" for the ballroom song in Labyrinth. Stars for that, dupe or not.

Kid Fenris - 2015-01-13
I like the insinuation that all of these artists each had only one or two good songs.

Is this real? This was just a bit of clever video editing, surely?

"Yeah!"

I grew up in the armpit of California near Chowchilla. In Grammar School/Jr. High I hated "Punk" and only listened to Maiden, Priest, Motorhead, etc. Then one day I was in the mall at Musicland and decided to buy Black Flag's Damaged. I was immediately converted.
In those days Punk was considered to be DEVO, Blondie, Men at Work and the Flying Lizards. At least in the assbackward town I lived in.
I also was inspired by PTL club expose on the evils of punk rock which had live footage of TSOL, Circle Jerks, etc.
