There is zero chance that this show is real. Or has aired anywhere outside of Europe or an airplane cabin.

infinite zest - 2014-12-29

I believe it's real, and is actually kind of a funny sight gag. I haven't really watched the show, but the Cartoon Network show Clarence had a similar gag where Mr. Right walks in the restaurant and the girl assumes he's her blind date, and his boyfriend comes up and they kiss, and then Mr. Wrong walks in.. something like that. It's a pretty good way of addressing mild homophobia and the shallowness of some people in one minute or less.

spikestoyiu - 2014-12-29

I've only ever seen the show on shorter domestic flights. Beyond the ridiculousness of some of the pranks, there are like 5-6 cameras catching all of this. And they don't seem to be shitty quality cameras. So I'd have zero idea how they successfully pull any of this off.

jreid - 2014-12-29

The original series was made in Montreal up here in Canada, I can guarantee almost every Canadian with a cable package has seen it.

I personally think most of the segments are real, but there have been some where the reactions are too perfect (like this one) that make me think they bring in actors now and then to 'season' the show.

spikestoyiu - 2014-12-29

I don't think I've ever heard anyone speak. I would have guessed German or something. Huh.

Snakeweapon - 2014-12-29

100% real. My girlfriend was in a Hallowe'en segment years ago when we lived in Montreal. It was something goofy where they made it look like she was strangling someone to death with a rope.

infinite zest - 2014-12-29

That's awesome. I do extra work on Portlandia so if you watch the show, you might have seen me (I don't watch it) and for one of the sketches we were dressed up in prison jumpsuits in a park near a busy highway where the cars were going by too fast to probably notice the camera crew and equipment (they were also sort of obscured by trees) and someone called the cops.

Meerkat - 2014-12-29

It's 100% real and is a guilty pleasure. I mean yeah, it's kind of stupid and goofy and childish but FUCK is it funny.

yogarfield - 2014-12-29

IT'S REAL

IT'S DAMN REAL

spikestoyiu - 2014-12-30

My mind is fucking blown. I would have bet everything I own that this was fake.

Snakeweapon, what do they do with the cameras? It seems like there are so many of them and they don't have the shitty, blurry look of hidden cameras.

chumbucket - 2014-12-30

I think what adds to the "fakey" feel to these is the Euro-funny approach they have, much like that found in Mentos ads.

Snakeweapon - 2014-12-30

Ladypants says they concealed their cameras with what looked like moving company trucks. She was asked to sign a release afterward as well, and was made to feel like a bad sport for considering anything other than "Fine go ahead". I mean, they had vans and actors and everything!

infinite zest - 2014-12-31

I was going to assume something similar; at this point you could probably create a similarly edited scene with 5 people sitting around with iPhones looking like they were texting (maybe) but the days of "shitty hidden camera" footage are long gone, unless it's a look you're trying to achieve. Mr. Snake, was she stopped at random to do the scene or did she audition? Because I was stopped at random to do a commercial and after it was chosen I had the option of joining the Screen Actors Guild. In my case I went ahead and did it, given that it was a relatively small amount of money compared to what I received, but it does make getting extra work really easy. Maybe you already know this, and personally I hate and love extra work equally, but the pay's not that bad and you get to meet some interesting people.

Hooker - 2014-12-29

Pretty good video, amazing trollfest in the comments.

infinite zest - 2014-12-29

Holy shit you ain't kidding about the trollfest. I really wish the reddit trolls would shut the fuck up, not because they're not funny (once in a while they are,) but because basically non-reddit youtube users are pretty much in on it at this point, and making a legitimately good and resource-filled site seem like the new 4chan to them. Is that what they want?

Albuquerque Halsey - 2014-12-29

Reddit's a shithole and the reddit trolls are barely exaggerated.

infinite zest - 2014-12-29

Yeah, but it's kinda like saying "facebook's a shithole." It wasn't always and I used to like it a lot (particularly the music section, which used to be about the quality of what you see in 73Q (ok that's subjective, given that many of those submissions are my own) but every time I went on there I'd discover a new band. But now.. meh. But as far as I know, 4chan was always like 4chan.

oddeye - 2014-12-30

All pretty girls are liers.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-30

Reddit would probably be funnier if all of their punchlines didn't boil down to "haha, I am from Reddit".

THUMBS UP IF HOOKER SENT YOU HERE!

theSnake - 2014-12-29

Self aware "redditor" trolls are my favorite trend in a long time

infinite zest - 2014-12-29

I think I'd like them more if they didn't just pop up in videos linked through reddit, and just more random videos on youtube.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-30

Wow, that took a dark turn all of a sudden.

oddeye - 2014-12-30

he should have broke the glass and then ground it into her lieing face

EvilHomer - 2014-12-30

Dark?

Explain.

infinite zest - 2014-12-30

I think what he means is it's actually against every restaurant or bar's policy to take a drink away from someone no matter who paid for it, especially after it had been drank out of. That waitress most likely lost her job and lost her apartment and developed a pretty mean crack habit in an economy where new jobs are scarce, especially when you're fired and not laid off, so she turned to the world's oldest profession.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-30

Oooh, that makes sense. See, I thought John was just being racist.

TeenerTot - 2014-12-30

oddeye, that's twice you've misspelled "liar" or "lying." Unless you mean she doesn't stand up when she sleeps....

oddeye - 2014-12-30

I actually get that wrong every damn time, I'd really appreciate it if you could correct me. For real man.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-30

Don't listen to Mr Tot. He's lieing.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-30

I can't tell if someone was trolling or trying to make a misogynist point with a shitty post-Benny Hill routine that has no relation to reality, or some variation or combination of above. We all know that Redidiots are capable of all of these forms of stupid and so many more. Even feminist Redidiots tend to be assholes, or so I would gather from the experience of being booted from r/Gamerghazi simply for being pro-bowling shirt.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-30

Huh?

I still don't get it. Literally the only thing I understood from what you just posted was that you got yourself banned from a feminist subReddit, and that doesn't explain what you found so dark about this skit.

TeenerTot - 2014-12-30

oddeye-
I wasn't sure if you were using autocorrect, were making a pun I didn't get, or were maybe having a stroke. Sorry if I humbled ya.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-30

>>I still don't get it.

I'm fine with that.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-30

Well I'm not.

What part did you think was "trolling", and why?

infinite zest - 2014-12-30

Mr. Motherfucker may be referring to the YT comments, in particular reddit troller Berta Lovejoy, most likely a dude whose avatar is sort of an obese parody of Anita Sarkeesian.. I probably don't need to explain this.. anyway the replies on this particular video got a lot worse going down than the usual "shut the fuck up troll" and fat jokes.
