What I'm hearing is: sci-fi has gotten so lazy, there's no crazy million-dollar pulsar-themed movies these days.
|
SolRo - 2014-12-01 There are probably scripts out there, but the audience is too stupid for hard sci-fi to have a chance anymore (or ever?).
|
SolRo - 2014-12-01 I take that back, most movie writers are too stupid for hard sci-fi to begin with.

SolRo - 2014-12-01 It's not a sweeping generalization, it's statistical fact.

Five stars for neutron stars is not enough stars. They're fucking amazing things. Check out the wiki on them and prepare to have your mind repeatedly blown:

I kind of wish that they'd talked a bit about tidal forces, and did a better job of explaining why they're called "pulsars," but other than that, I love this video, and I love that neutron stars are a thing, and I love that this universe is so amazing.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2014-12-02
So I recently came to Spain and have been doing basic science with elementary schoolers. It's required me to go and brush up on my basic scientific theory and man the whole nature of even an atom gives me a renewed awe and respect for our universe.
If you want something pretty sciencey but accessible to play with, it's worth checking out these simulations.
