i watched this movie just last week! the choice of art garfunkel was bizarre. he fit his character of psychology professor well enough, but there's absolutely no sex appeal in him, despite Theresa Russel's character's insistence that he's the hottest thing since clint eastwood.
actually i found the characters the most infuriating part of the film. Garfunkel's role here is a whiny needy nerdy type that's at turns intensely jealous, and intensely possessive. this is what drives him to rape Russel at the film's end, which the film has been leading up to since some of the first scenes. But the movie acts as if Russel has been asking for it. Perhaps the director was trying to go for a "this is what happens when two emotionally shallow, jealous, needy people have an on-off relationship" but i didn't find enough exposition or exploration of how Garfunkel really thinks, to express this premise.
so in conclusion... five stars for Russel being extremely sexy; no stars for Garfunkel
