Apparently this was an orchestrated bit by Nabisco (the Carren O'Keefe Vimeo account this is on belongs to Carren O'Keefe the Wheat Thins marketer), making this a seven minute ad in between ad breaks and Colbert selling out in just about the most obscene way possible.
But, five stars because despite myself, I still find this hilarious.
Yeah I figured it was a marketing thing. And like most people, I like Wheat Thins. But this subversive advertising just doesn't work, at least not on me. Next time I'm standing at the hollywood hawaiian havana motel staring into the vending machine, I'll probably still press the button for wheat thins (unless there's kettle chips, which there wouldn't be in a place like that!) I just don't get it. This doesn't make me want to go buy wheat thins anymore than a car commercial where the geico pig is driving a 2014 Jetta and crashes into a streetlamp, and they start doing Gangnam Style. Bill Hicks was right.
I remember seeing this and finding it brilliant, despite the marketing. This is the best way to do corporate mandated ad-spots. That memo is a thing of beauty.
