Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this song predates the new generation of hip hop which uses similar beats (a mix between the DJ Screw chopped and screwed and IDM IMO) that became popularized with Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, as well as Kanye West. That's why I always liked Coolio and the song "Cartoon Ghetto," even though that still had very 90s hip hop beats.
