Aloe is not a boring pony.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-01

Just so we're clear, she and Lotus are not my favorite background ponies, but they are very high on the list, maybe five or six. Roid Rage (who is probably a supporting-tier pony now), Derpy, Apple Fritter, Roxie, s04e15 Unnamed Earth Filly #2, then Lotus and Aloe. I still remember what I was doing when I first saw them. I was watching MLP.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-09-01

His name is Bulk Biceps, not Roid Rage. Honestly, who in their right mind would think that MLP would name a character anything like that?

It's absurd.

Cena_mark - 2014-09-01

I don't get the background pony hype. Pretty much fans cling to a tiny aspect about the character then exploit the hell out of it. Octavia and Vinyl are both musicians, so the fandom makes them roommates. Bonbon and Lyra are seen together a couple of times, so the fandom decides they're lovers. Derpy says the word "muffin", so the fandom makes her obsessed with muffins.

duck&cover - 2014-09-01

Steroids make your wings shrink.

Crunchy Frog - 2014-09-01

I personally like "Snowflake" as the name for Bulk Biceps/Roid Rage. Playfully subverting expectations is a big part of what makes the show and the fandom so great.

infinite zest - 2014-09-01

Hahahahaha roid rage. AKA Rein Astley. Is it just me or does he look a lot like Mr. Horse from Ren and Stimpy? I'm probably missing a lot here. School me! I doublefuckindare you!

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-09-02

Background character fandom = Boba Fett Syndrome.

"Generally, it's used to describe a side character making up part of the Ensemble, either a non-lead secondary character or a mere Flat Character, who can sometimes become unexpectedly popular with the fandom (sometimes, even more than the lead characters) depending on who and where the Fandom is, as well as what the other characters are like in comparison (for example, the hero is not as popular because s/he is too much The Everyman). Often, this can happen because the character has very few character traits, allowing fans to imagine this character to have traits that they like. The Ensemble Darkhorse can sometimes be viewed as the character equivalent of a Cult Classic."

MLP:FIM even has its own page for this phenomenon:

Snowflake was an acceptable name! I usually use it interchangeably with Roid Rage. Now, I know the show wouldn't actually use the Roid Rage name in any official capacity, but Bulk Biceps?! That's just awful, almost as bad as Time Turner or Ditzy Doo (a name which is highly offensive to blonde women). IZ, yes! He does look like Mr Horse! That never occurred to me before, but I totally get the connection! Cena - Applejack joke. And seriously, what do you expect? They're background ponies, tiny aspects are all we get from the show. If you're bothered by the way the fandom handles prominent background ponies like BonBon and Vinyl, then you should see what it does to the obscure background ponies.

The difference is that Boba Fett was not a background character. He had lines and action scenes. And those scenes revealed him to be unbelievably boring and incompetent.

Whereas background ponies are literally just cloned scene filler characters with adorable names like "Extraneous Flash Asset #714." There is nothing to them whatsoever as characters, so let's give them personalities in fanfics and gay marry them to each other. But first we need to decide which one is the naughty slut, and which ones are slightly less naughty sluts.

memedumpster - 2014-09-02

IG-88 4 life. I loved that action figure as a kid.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-03

What's even better is the way the fandom treats some of the second or third tier supporting ponies: ponies with speaking roles and defined personalities, but only appear in a hooffull of episodes. My favorite are the Diamond Tiara fans; there's a very active group of DT apologists who like to portray Diamond Tiara (a notorious bully pony) as a sensitive, vulnerable victim.

There's a fanwork club called the Diamond Cutters dedicated entirely to this stuff.

Crab Mentality - 2014-09-01

It made it to the frontpage!

Honestly, this and the apple.mov series sums up pretty much all I know about MLP.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-01

It's fairly accurate, especially the Fluttershy part.

Hooker - 2014-09-01

Five stars just for that Hopper war.

Cena_mark - 2014-09-01

MLP Videos are a lot like John Cena. Its a mixed reaction. Like John Cena MLP is extremely controversial.

The Mothership - 2014-09-01

So the whole show - all 5 seasons- takes place at one long, neverending summer camp? No wonder all these bronys like it so much.

Xenocide - 2014-09-02

Ha ha, you took this video seriously.

The Mothership - 2014-09-02

I know nothing about this show except that it has cartoon ponies and insane fans.

Xenocide - 2014-09-02

That's already too much.

Actually, what's funny is that the reverse of your comment is true: bronies really shouldn't relate to the main characters, as the ponies are all have steady careers and healthy interpersonal relationships.

Come to think of it, I don't think there's ever been a good cartoon set in a summer camp. The guy who created Rocko's Modern Life even tried one and couldn't make the concept work. The only good summer camp narrative in human history is Psychonauts.

memedumpster - 2014-09-02

And Meatballs, which is basically the same story.

memedumpster - 2014-09-02

I also liked Moonrise Kingdom.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

What about Camp Candy???

Gmork - 2014-09-01

More opportunities to shit on MLP? Yes please!

ashtar. - 2014-09-01

I was withholding these stars until someone got mad.

Gmork - 2014-09-02

Should have kept them, because one-starring this garbage made me happy, not mad :)

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

>> Should have kept them, because one-starring this garbage made me happy, not mad :)

The Will of Pinkie Pie works in mysterious ways!

Maggot Brain - 2014-09-01

Horse taxes.

TimidAres - 2014-09-01

Fart.

crasspm - 2014-09-01

I guess you'd have to already watch the show to know why this is in any way entertaining? Or is it supposed to be evil? I need to check the hopper a little more...

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-09-02

Meh. Never watched an entire episode and yet I've absorbed (that IS probably the best word for it) enough from here and internet memes to know more about the show than I should.

I'm just amazed to see someone use SFM to animate ponies and not have them tonguing each other for once.

BHWW - 2014-09-02

I would 1-star this one hundred times if I could.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

Well, keep upvoting MLP videos then. That way you can one-star them all!

BHWW - 2014-09-02

What we need is a cartoon horse pogrom.
