Game was hard, was trailer was misleading. I didn't see a single jumpkick

Scrimmjob - 2014-08-27

The title should be Jumpkick City.

That's a great name for..

everything!

It's a shame that The Advantage or the Minibosses never covered this the stage one song, as that's probably my favorite NES theme ever. But yes, the game was triple hard. I rented it and took it back to the video store an hour later and the guy let me exchange it for something else, along with this look like "yeah, I couldn't make it past the first level either, kid. It's ok.."

I'm pretty sure it's not a song.

So, 5500¥ was about US in 1988.

infinite zest - 2014-08-27

Memory's foggy, but I think I remember Bayou Billy being one of those really expensive games when it first came out, like 60-70 bucks, kind of like Shining Force. I could be wrong.. Japan was getting a good deal if that's the case. Too bad the game's fucking impossible..

fluffy - 2014-08-28

Yeah, I think NES games were regularly -60 in the US at that time, and it wasn't until the 90s that there was that class-action lawsuit and subsequent price reduction (as well as everyone with a registered NES getting a check for like off a game).

Hmmm? I remember NES games being in 1989.

fluffy - 2014-08-30

Hm, the only MSRP information I can find online states that it was .99 but that was definitely not true.

Here's a translation patch for the Japanese version of the game,
which according to this site is easier, has an extra mode, and is balanced and fun to play.

The fighting portions were simple, if extremely dull because you just kept jump kicking in place until the enemies ran into your kick enough times.

It was the motherfucking DRIVING segments that made this game impossible. I only ever made it passed the final one once out of literally a hundred playthroughs.
