Go Aussie go! Old George knows how to direct action alright. Also: the film's design looks pretty interesting.

I wonder if the Directors Cut will have a cameo from Mel Gibson as a mad cave hermit yelling anti-Semetic slogans and blaming Jews for the apocalypse?

I watched this with the sound off - cause all trailers sound exactly the same.

Scrimmjob - 2014-07-27

No way, Mel has got to play a very anti semetic Lord Humungus!

infinite zest - 2014-07-27

All things considered, they should have considered a certain Australian actor who was in a certain movie that was almost the same as Bronson, mr. Eric Banana ladies and gentlemen, the one in the hulk that didn't suck!

oddeye - 2014-07-28

We seem to be the only people on earth that think Hulk was a good movie and superior to the newest one. A fusion of the two movies without Edward Norton but keeping Jennifer and Tim Roth would be perfect.

Eric Bana has been awesome in everything I've seen him in and I wish I got to see him in more stuff.

infinite zest - 2014-07-28

Whoops. Autocorrect. Sorry Eric! I know right? First I love Ang Lee, and second it was the first comic book movie (for me anyway) that captured the style perfectly and turned "Hulk Smash!!" into a beautiful psychological ballet. People complain about the pacing and such, but just look at Godzilla or Batman Begins: if anybody complained about how they wanted their money back for the one hour that neither Batman or Godzilla were in their respective films, I'd seriously question their ability to watch movies. But Hulk gets shit on, again and again. Then again I liked Pain and Gain.

Hardy will be badass in this, and most American audiences know the "American" dub of Mad Max anyway, but it's so Australian! A bit of my heritage is coming out.

infinite zest - 2014-07-28

spicedriver with the sound off you missed out on at least ten motorcycle bass drops!!!!!

I kind of liked the song at the beginning though.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-07-28

I don't "get" the Edward Norton version. I thought he was a good casting choice but the movie itself had a very bland plotline and "Hulk" by Ang Lee was art. I did not ever think anyone could make a good anything with the Hulk, ever, but he managed to.

This looks depressing but then I'm trying to veer away from post apocalypse fiction that feels like it could really happen.

StanleyPain - 2014-07-28

Just as a note folks, this has an interesting supporting cast featuring a few "cult" actors who haven't really seen much exposure outside Australia in awhile like Rick Carter, John Howard, and Hugh Keays Byrne who was the main villain in the original Mad Max.

chairsforcheap - 2014-07-27

why is everyone trying to hide hardy's dick suckin lips

infinite zest - 2014-07-27

Oh I'll see it. Road Warrior is my favorite movie and I loved Hardy in Bronson. Pleeeeeeez don't suck.

Scrimmjob - 2014-07-27

So this kind of looks like a remake of Road Warrior? Any word if this will be a remake, reboot or continuation?

StanleyPain - 2014-07-27

As I understand it, Miller thinks of the Mad Max films as a kind of "Man With No Name" sort of thing where the movies are interconnected, but only loosely and Max is basically a sort of a James Bond type character where he always exists in some form and so can be recast. So, technically, it's Mad Max 4 and not a reboot, but it's almost like a re-visitation of Road Warrior in theme.

oddeye - 2014-07-28

I can dig it. I wouldn't mind some Kenshiro style action thrown in there either.

theSnake - 2014-07-27

Rating pending. I'll see it if its rated R, but I doubt it. I dont get why they make these 80s movies without gore when thats the major draw.

boner - 2014-07-28

Action movies are making more money from China now than they do in the US. And China has no rating system, so your movie has to be OK for all ages or they will censor it or just refuse to allow it to be shown. (I could be wrong)

infinite zest - 2014-07-28

In my opinion 2:20 or so kind of guarantees an R rating.. then again Miller has more recently found success with Babe 2 and the Happy Feet franchise.

Boner I'd never heard that before. I used to work for Broadway Across America and it was sort of the same thing - Mary Poppins or the Lion King was the same rating as Rent or Book of Mormon in that there wasn't one. So people would be up in arms when a play like August Osage County came into town, and of course they went anyway without doing research and brought their granddaughter because that was their Christmas present because she likes musicals and blah blah blah.. furthermore we couldn't enforce it: if a ten year old wanted to see Book of Mormon the ticket seller could, and had, sell them a ticket.

As such we got complaints on one end for marketing "pornography" (I'm not sure how 'fuck' or an implied circle jerk scene in Spring Awakening is "pornography" but whatever) to minors and then ostracized our subscriber base who appreciate that Broadway's a lot more than The Music Man and Oklahoma.. we were kind of fucked on both sides of the stick. Eventually we just stopped booking anything new and interesting and relied on the ol' work horses because it was the safest thing to do.

China's still confusing though. If I recall, Lust Caution (also Ang Lee, see above I like him) got edited the fuck out of (or to be more precise, they edited the fucking out) and it was still China's highest-grossing Chinese language film of that year.

Nominal - 2014-07-27

Still pessimistic. Death Race remake looked promising from the trailer too.

Robin Kestrel - 2014-07-28

So it's not about furries, then?

sasazuka - 2014-07-28

Yeah, when I first heard the title last year (or maybe in 2012), "Furry Road" was the first thing I thought.

Boomer the Dog should film a parody of this movie.

Xenocide - 2014-07-28

One of those cars is dressed up as a hedgehog.

Well, I guess you've peaked my interest, Hollywood.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-07-28

No feral child in sight, hooray!

13.5 - 2014-07-28

Hey man cut the feral kid some slack
He's just your average boy who likes music boxes and seeing men have their faces blown off at point blank range

roofle - 2014-07-28

The feral child was okay, the fucking dopey tribe of children that were in Thunderdome? Beyond awful.

fedex - 2014-07-28

shut up man that fucking boomerang was awesome and my 7-year old son wants one now

BillLumbergh - 2014-07-28

it looks like a video game or something

Merzbau - 2014-07-28

The Just Cause 2 team were supposedly working on the tie-in game for this. I wonder what happened?

infinite zest - 2014-07-29

Most action movies do these days. When I was a kid I always dreamed of games looking as real as the movies, and now that's pretty much the case. At least here I don't need to see mad max continue 100 times (can you even die in games and it's just game over and start from the beginning anymore???)

sasazuka - 2014-07-28

Fun fact, this movie was filmed along the Skeleton Coast in Namibia, Africa. They were ready to film in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia (just east of the border with South Australia), but it rained and there were too many wildflowers for the Outback to be a convincing Outback.

Some environmental groups claim the filming had a harsh impact on the Namib Desert ecosystem: http://goo.gl/DJmcNQ (Wired)

Adham Nu'man - 2014-07-28

Yeah I mean fuck it the place is like a desert since they left.

sasazuka - 2014-07-28

The specific complaints I remember from the article is that the film crew damaged lichens and moss that take decades to grow (as the only water they get are sea mists), and also uprooted plants from when they rake the desert between takes (to hide the wheel tracks from previous takes, as well as wheel tracks from the off-screen production vehicles).

EvilHomer - 2014-07-28

Oooooh. So that's why I keep getting all kinds of documentaries and news clips about Namibia on my YT feed.

Hooker - 2014-07-28

So, really, it would be irresponsible not to see it considering the ecological cost would go to waste if I didn't.

sasazuka - 2014-07-28

Ya know, you'd think it would be more economical just to halt filming in Australia for a week or two than moving the entire kit and caboodle of the production some 7330 miles away, across the bulk of Australia, the entire Indian Ocean, and then most of southern Africa to Dorob National Park in Namibia, but I'd imagine there were other financial benefits to shooting dirt cheap in Africa (although a safer part of Africa).

sasazuka - 2014-07-28

Wikipedia doesn't mention it, but I wonder if they also availed themselves of studio facilities in Cape Town, South Africa, which is an up-and-coming locale for filming "runaway productions". (For example, most of CHRONICLE was shot there even if it was set in Seattle. I was really surprised, I presumed they just shot it a little further up the coast in Vancouver BC, but, somehow, they managed to make Cape Town a convincing Seattle with only minimal 2nd Unit location shoots in Seattle, mostly around the Space Needle.)

BHWW - 2014-07-28

The guy in the skull half-mask, "Immortan Joe" is played by the same guy who played the Toecutter in the first film.

oddeye - 2014-07-28

What about my suspension of disbelief?

oddeye - 2014-07-28

Push me?
Fuck You.
O yeah, says who?

RedHood - 2014-07-28

Ok but do we really need the muslin wrapped twats looking all doe-eyed and needing saving and shit? Can't we just have vroom and boom and less useless "save me bitches"? Theron looks awesome though! DA CLAW!

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-07-28

They should just call this Fallout: The Movie.

Xenocide - 2014-07-28

I hope this doesn't have a plot.

oddeye - 2014-07-29

It's about kids in a desert and tina turner.

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2014-08-27

Driving home from work today I saw a Falcon coupe in full V8 Interceptor garb with the Concorde bodykit, 30" blower, roof spoiler, the works. Nerds :)
