Couldn't take more than a couple seconds. 5 for evil.

Pope Caius - 2014-07-27

And still no turtle treasure found.

The silver lining here is at least these days future murderers are exposing themselves before having a chance to shoot up a park or something.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2014-07-27

Florida.

BorrowedSolution - 2014-07-27

Wait... this is strange behaviour for children, now?

What fucking planet are you people from?

infinite zest - 2014-07-27

If there's one thing that social media, access to camcorders on your phones, etc. is doing it's making kids learn these lessons, get punished and humiliated and grow the fuck up a lot quicker.

BorrowedSolution - 2014-07-27

Yeah, nothing straightens a kid out like being thrown into Florida's Juvenile Justice system over a relatively minor incident.

infinite zest - 2014-07-27

If it was a stray cat instead would you feel the same way?

Gmork - 2014-07-27

5 for the evil of "relatively minor incident". Not only is this animal torture, it's endangered animal torture.

spikestoyiu - 2014-07-27

Yeah, on BorrowedSolution's super cool and normal planet, kids routinely light animals on fire and then stomp them to death and it's not a big deal or anything like that and those kids are definitely totally normal and they grow up fine so stop being such a bunch of squares jeez

blase - 2014-07-27

They're teenagers - not little kids who don't know any better.

BorrowedSolution - 2014-07-27

Okay okay, fine. Nobody here ever killed an animal just to see what it was like when they were a kid. Possibly because even the lamest of tortoises could out-run you, or possibly because you're just that special and always have been.

BorrowedSolution - 2014-07-27

In all seriousness, though:

This is the worst fucking recipe for turtle soup EVER.

Gmork - 2014-07-27

No, most of us probably ARENT the kinds of kids who tortured and killed things "just to see what it was like".

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-07-27

I was a sadistic bastard with invertebrates when I was a kid, melting slugs, burning ants, and so forth. But I don't think I ever delighted in destroying a vertebrate animal. Shells and goo are one thing, bones and blood are another.

BorrowedSolution - 2014-07-27

Well, I didn't find it terribly amusing. The worst part was having to finish the job (seriously, what kind of monster would only maim an animal, am I right?).

But amazingly, it seems like all the resulting shame, disgust and punishment did it's trick, because it's been fifteen years since I wantonly tortured an animal to death.

What these girls did was terrible, but for people to start implying that these girls are nascent murderers is a bit ridiculous.

blase - 2014-07-27

I would think it's more typical behavior of a child or adolescent to want to keep a turtle as a pet, not kill it with fire. That's more the typical behavior of a disturbed kid.

infinite zest - 2014-07-27

These kids are old enough to know better, but young enough to learn from their mistakes. I lost my turtle when I was in preschool and it sucked because Fred was my best friend. A few years later my friends and I were riding bikes and I almost ran across a turtle I thought was mine, but with my phone number crossed out and someone else's there instead. Their immediate reaction was to stomp it like in Super Mario Brothers. It was actually the first fight I was in, taking that turtle back home and calling the number (even if it was my turtle to begin with.. guess we'll never know.)

I told my mom and she called their parents, they were probably grounded and that was that. If any of that had been filmed, who knows? So I guess what I'm saying is we all have witnessed something like this, but didn't have the capacity to document it; just word of mouth. It's like the kid who got incarcerated for making a "terrorist threat" on facebook: if I was a kid and mad and told my mom that I was going to blow up the school, she'd tell me to shut it the fuck up, and ask me what's wrong, why do I want to blow up the school. If I drew a picture of my school blowing up, she might (rightfully) seek counseling. But kids today have to get used to the fact that everything they think and say or film is going to be public if they want it to be. If a turtle was simply found dead in the middle of the street somewhere burned and crushed, unfortunately that would probably be the end of it.

So there's two important lessons here. One is animal cruelty and two is social media responsibility. As much as I like turtles, I wouldn't care if it was a full grown person putting a camera in a mousetrap. Should they be incarcerated? No, not anymore than someone who doesn't film themselves being cruel to animals. Should they be punished? Yes. Yes they should.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-07-27

Evil enough.

Fuck

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-07-27

Did not watch.

I don't remember most of the details, but I know that I was mean to animals as a child. I never really hurt any animals, but I teased them horribly. I grew up to be a compulsive animal rescuer, with a dozen devoted cats. This sounds worse, but maybe it's not irredeemable. I hope not.

Lef - 2014-07-27

fuck you for lighting a turtle on fire.

I do remember reading how kids in Victorian times were pretty terrible, and I do remember putting aunts under the death ray of a magnifying glass when I was 7 or so.. but still, this is depressing, poor turtle.

It's times like these that the flat Korean titties of Sistar make me feel a little better

Lef - 2014-07-27

By Aunts I really do mean my aunts, they where so tiny. Hearing them scream in the language of the old country, not understanding anything they were saying, and figuring half the body is already fried, lets see if a concentrated beam to the head will make their melon pop.

spikestoyiu - 2014-08-01

At least one of the girls continues just being a normal kid doing normal kid stuff so leave her alone already:
