Disappointing, though. What is with kids these days that they don't learn the basics of Greek mythology? I realize it's not important on a daily basis, but it feels like it ought to be common knowledge.
"Tales of Brave Ulysses" shouldn't leave a person wondering how sirens can sweetly sing, or who this "Ditey" person is and is it racist to call her "Afro-Ditey".
The roommate's god-daughter was over a little while ago, and saw a cartoon in which there was a three-headed dog. She was blown away at the very thought of such a thing. (And I assure you it wasn't "The Venture Bros" so it wasn't that the dog was talking about how good its genitals taste.)
Yeah. I mean, I knew it as "Ache- ee - leez" from an early age because I had a problem with my Achilles tendon.. throughout most of college my professors pronounced names (especially last) differently (Sarte = "Sout", Nietzsche = "Nit shuh" etc.) I took the mythology class but didn't go to a single lecture (still got an A.. haha so sue me Edith Hamilton isn't as much fun at 7AM) but I'm pretty sure the professor pronounced Achilles the same way.
also I find myself (in the myriad times throughout every waking moment of my existence where I find myself in a situation where I'm discussing "Achilles,") I often misspell it "Achielles" beause, you know, that kind of makes sense. Do they even let British people on this show?
I didn't know this but I guess Wheel of Fortune is really strict, not even allowing for vernacular pronunciations. A woman lost when she pronounced "Seven Swans a Swimming" "a-swimmin'"
Maybe it was intentional: I remember thinking when I was in college that anything I could conceivably win on these shows I couldn't use: a dinette set for my room share? A tv when I can't afford cable? A car? Didn't know how to drive. And apparently it's nearly impossible to flip them because the studio owns them.. Something like that. This way he gets 15 minutes of fame.. I dunno.
That million dollars would've been nice for paying off student loans tho..
I thought you only kept your money from a round if you solved the puzzle. Did they change that rule recently? What's the point of solving the puzzle then.
