Pennsylvania.

"You'd pay like 2 dollar a piece for those at the gas station..."

yogarfield - 2014-05-27

I am shocked, SHOCKED that neither dollar tree or spiritual poverty is a linked tag. Also she should do makeup tutorials, I want that purple look.

Also the train. Also the constant reminders that everything is a dollar.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-05-27

Someone hook her up with Ashens.

TeenerTot - 2014-05-27

Her camo scarf. Her East Coast pronunciation of "oh." Her unabashed "I like sausage." I genuinely like this woman.

baleen - 2014-05-27

I like her too. I actually think I'd have a ball with this lady over a couple glasses of boxed wine. I just think she has shitty, hilariously unhealthy food habits and could very well step into a John Waters movie without much of a hitch.

TeenerTot - 2014-05-27

Count me in on the boxed wine party. I'll bring microwave pizza rolls.

PlusDome - 2014-05-27

I'm getting shades of Parker Posey,
i dont even need to close my eyes.

glasseye - 2014-05-27

CUWA-FEEEEE

East coast pronunciation is so weird.

Enjoy - 2014-05-27

These are the same people who are involved in MLMs. I guarantee.

boner - 2014-05-27

You will notice that the "ice cream" boxes do not have the phrase "ice cream" printed anywhere on them. My mom used to buy that shit until I pointed out to her that it's fake. I also pointed out that chicken flavored cup noodles have only TVP and no meat.

in summary, read the ingredients on everything. or, stop buying processed shit if you have the means to cook with real ingredients.

gmol - 2014-05-27

What is so wrong if something is processed? A lot of food you eat comes from large industrial scale processes

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-05-27

Not to mention how long any instant soup is with "real" chicken in it would stay good. It'd be... what, rehydratable jerkey? Salted 'till nothing microbial would touch it?

I'm not suggesting it's health food, but I wouldn't be so quick to discard it.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-05-27

Man, my dinner tonight was a fantastic pork stew. You try to tell people that carrots, onions and celery make the broth, and you can't just go without them. Carrots, onions and celery for 2 gallons of broth is less than , AND you likely have a whole bag of celery left because celery is literally the cheapest food that exists. They don't believe you.

AND THEN HAVE TWO GALLONS OF BROTH, which you divy up and dump cheap cuts of meat and whatever starch you like to boil in for an hour or two, and it's a meal that can't be duplicated with processed foods. It can't be done. And if you're like me and you can sometimes go without meat without feeling your testicles shrivel away into dust, you can stetch it even further and cheaper. Once you learn the magic triad of celery-carrots-onions, you're able to feed yourself like a king and feel a giddy thrill when presented with a limited pantry.

baleen - 2014-05-28

Cogdis, you understand.

Cooking is cheap. Good food is cheap. You can't tell me the best cooks in America, who hail from a swamp in Louisiana, are too poor to eat good.

It's a skill, like anything else. It's what home ec was created for. Learn how to prep food, plan meals, flavor and buy the choice stuff, and you will eat just fine.

The greatest success of the processed food industry has been in convincing normal working people that the processed food packages are normal, and to ask for more is classist, condescending, that it takes too much time or work, or, gasp, that it's even anti-American.

gmol - 2014-05-28

Not what i am saying at all. When it cimes to diets, apart from obvious deficiencies or excess calories we have no idea what "good" means.

gmol - 2014-05-27

I like cooking and the taste of fresh food, don't get me wrong.

But I'm guessing you can live just fine off of "processed" food (vs the processing I do in my kitchen). Milk is certainly processed.

While some stuff is pretty homogenized, and I think I could tell double blind, I can't I say I like the taste better becuase it really is better or because I associate "better" with higher prices.

Bring on the fudgesicles!

gmol - 2014-05-27

Meant to reply to cog

cognitivedissonance - 2014-05-27

The solution, as I've said and had dismissed as classism, is returning Home Economics to the schools. But the fact is that entire industries depend upon consumers who are incapable of fending for themselves, and countering mundane, simple solutions such as basic cooking skills, understanding portion sizes and building menu plans as directly equivalent to cheese and wine snobbery, outside of the scope of Brave American Everyman.

baleen - 2014-05-28

Wow you basically just said what I said before I said it.

P.S. please read a book by Gunter Grass called The Flounder. Tell me what you think. It's about gender, war, history, and food.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-05-30

I take the title of this video as... "Well... it's MOSTLY food. Not complete food, there's some filling in there. But it's mostly food."
