Endless mugging, no jokes, totally random stuff, someone gets killed. Modern comedy.

Prickly Pete - 2014-05-21

The joke is a take on people who get way over excited for DJ's who don't do all that much work. Need things explained to you much?

Raggamuffin - 2014-05-21

Wow you really are prickly

Anaxagoras - 2014-05-21

No, you're just an idiot.

Raggamuffin - 2014-05-21

Yeah, you're right. The problem with this video is that I'm not smart enough for it.

That guy - 2014-05-21

Modern comedy, get off my lawn!!

Raggamuffin - 2014-05-21

This is the day PoeTV stands up for SNL.

fedex - 2014-05-21

Solidarność!!!

memedumpster - 2014-05-21

Bass drum!

bongoprophet - 2014-05-21

I just don't know

Shoebox Joe - 2014-05-21

So did they hire a writer from Scary Movie for this?

Out of all the jokes that would work with SNL's infamous reputation of dragging things out, this was one of them and yet it ended up hit and miss. It's as if the writers have no idea of what being absurd would apply in a social context and would rather join in the insipid "spontaneous" humor that every douche on the internet holds on to all because it worked in high school.

I wish this was just a product of the millennial generation so it could fade away, but it isn't.

That guy - 2014-05-21

Even a broken sketch show is right twice a year.

This "That's so random!" type of humor is done to death, it's an easy target, and SNL's batting average is horrible, but this sketch was well made. At least you saw that.

For all the failed versions of this kind of thing that they try, you have to blame SNL from the top down.

EvilHomer - 2014-05-21

I don't get it.

sasazuka - 2014-05-21

Wasn't a version of this in the SCOTT PILGRIM comic, the band sings a song that kills their audience? Okay, that's also every episode of METALOCALYPSE ever as well.

My favourite bit of this is the little train set the DJ plays with. More so than even the RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK reference.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-05-21

Dying is so metal.

*Note: not saying the people exploding due to pure anticipation and excitement didn't work here, but today's Dubstep culture being as obnoxious as it is would sincerely use that as a joke, along side the "moneybags for nothing". It's heavy handed and thrown in all because it's snarky cynicism.

sasazuka - 2014-05-21

Actually, I remembered after I wrote that that the song in the SCOTT PILGRIM comic doesn't actually kill the audience, it just knocks them out for a few hours.

I should really watch Scott Pilgrim movie. I just really really really don't like Michael Cera. I tell people "oh yeah totally see Argo even if you don't like Ben Affleck," things like that, but I really can't stand Cera.

infinite zest - 2014-05-21

Some of my friends do EDM shows, usually these big secret raves in the woods and I'd know their reaction to this: "We do more than push a fucking button and dance to our own music.." I usually help them load in and load out though, and for the most part, they're not actively doing anything on Ableton or whatever program they're using- it's just on with stuff they made earlier.

But at least they're doing SOMETHING. They're creating music that, even if it's not necessarily my musical cup of tea, is their own. there's these "DJs" at a place I frequent and they have the turntables set up and everything but are just playing mp3s off their computer. The records are just spinning with the needle not even touching down. The DJs are usually just drunk at the bar, kind of looking over to make sure nobody's touching their computer. The songs are good and and there's no jukebox so I'd rather listen to some obscure Kluster song than some radio station or a drunk kid who thinks Smashmouth sounds like a good idea right about now, but still.

If you don't like Michael Cera, you are going to hate Scott Pilgrim. I like the guy okay but found the movie nonstop tedium. Your prior antipathy will render you incapable of understanding why you the viewer are supposed to have any sympathy for the douchebag self-centered protagonist.

This video was kind of cute but only kind of.

memedumpster - 2014-05-22

You want to see a movie where Michael Cera will be the thing you enjoy? Year Zero. He is dynamite as the clueless lesbian sidekick in comparison to the outright awfulness of everyone else in the movie.

infinite zest - 2014-05-21

This is funny in the same way the bobbing heads guys were funny. Or the sweaty balls thing. You could've told me this was the Kroll Show and I would've believed it. It's not enough to make watch the show or anything but 5 stars for a funny joke on a show that I've generally found unfunny since I discovered things like Mr Show.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-05-21

I hate that I gave this a view.

fedex - 2014-05-22

go easy on yourself there, tiger
