Possibly the best game ever. Other than updated graphics, I honestly don't know how you'd improve on this for the sequel.

Allow your achievements to be posted to your facebook newsfeed of course.

Limit players to one turn every four hours, unless they buy premium currency or get "help" from five friends on their social network.

Turn it into a first person shooter.

Improve the interface. I recently bought it from GOG and put it down after half an hour. After tons of Civ 4 and Fall From Heaven 2, it's impossible to go back to AC's archaic interface and mechanics. Going back to a pre-borders Civ model is...ugh.

I'm not getting excited about the new After Earth civ until they show that they learned their lesson from the Civ 5 debacle, but every preview says they're keeping the "poor man's advance wars" one unit per hex combat so I doubt it.

Only one faction available at start. The rest included as on-disc DLC.

So what was your favorite faction? Mine was the University, for both ideological and gameplay reasons. In the expansion, the Pirates and Data Angels were awesome, too! The Pirates' ideology was a bit incoherent - "we're pirates!" is cool and all, but I wish they'd had more substance than that. And the Angels, while having the best plot (cyberpunk hackers!), had some of the worst faction bonuses; basically the Believers minus the badass army or the urgent need for tech stealing (which kinda defeated the point of their Probe skills).

I liked the Morgans as allies, and the Spartans were pretty neat, up until they betrayed you. I hated the Believers and the Hive, often to the point of genocide, but my least favorite was probably the Peacekeepers. They always wound up attacking me, no matter how much I tried to be nice to them. With the Hive and the Believers, at least you knew where you stood: they were going to try killing you the moment they met you. But the Peacekeepers? They were devious fucking snakes. As long as they were the ones on top, they were all gracious and helpful to you, but the moment you start pulling in more votes than them, oh here come the drone strikes. Sid Meiers' commentary on Western imperialism?

The Gaians, there's something so satisfying about the "hippie" faction actually being incredibly efficient and deadly when it comes down to it.

It depends on which victory you were going for. Gaians were the best late game, when wild mind worms became a serious danger. I liked the Spartans just because they didn't have any major flaws. The Hive was just OP broken as long as you could steal tech from the people your horde of cannon fodder was overrunning.
