My issue is that this probably won't convince him to stop being an idiot. Kids carrying out really stupid pranks with obvious potential to go wrong and them inevitably going wrong, like this, appear to be a growing trend. And because of these kids' self-indulgent motivation to be youtube famous they see their rise in views for videos like this as successes.

More likely, he'll see the result as unjust and he'll do something else dumb in the name of "revenge" or "to show them."

He'll get killed and/or arrested sooner or later. The only question is how many other people will he take with him?

Give the Millennials a break. After the Boomers and the Gen-Xers, they didn't have a lot of examples of how to be awesome and the bar for doing stuff that's considered shocking and disruptive was set pretty low.

Besides, they're going to be the ones stuck cleaning up after the wild destructive party and they didn't get here until after all the pizza and booze was nearly gone so have some pity.

On behalf of both, let me just say I am so fucking sorry we didn't do better.

We kind of tried to change things, but we failed in the face of indifference to our efforts to change things. If we really cared, we wouldn't have cared that they didn't care.

Aw man.. I was like "I'm ok, I'm Gen-Y!" Then I looked it up. I'm '82, so technically I'm not a millennial if I move to Australia or Canada, where it's apparently '83. I wouldn't apologize Binro, without boomers, kids of boomers like myself would be in much more dire straits. I remember complaining to my dad once about how I can't get a better job, like the one I went to a public Ivy for, because all the boomers are holding on to the high paying professional jobs that I "deserve," but can't get because it was so much easier to get those jobs back before the economy crashed and burned, etc. etc. etc. But he holds on to his job (way past retirement age) in order to be there to support my older brother (full time musician), myself (slightly-above-minimum-wage-doorguy/musician etc.) and my little brother (living at home, high on the autism spectrum.)

If things were different, I don't know what I would do without him. My pride outweighs most other aspects in my life, so I don't ask for handouts, but I know if I were to lose my job and couldn't afford rent or something like that, he'd be right there.

Not everyone of my generation has a safety net like that, of course, so I know I'm fortunate in that way, but there is a very strong work ethic that I believe inherently exists in both bridges of your generation gap.

That's what infuriates me about the boomers. They love to go on about how lazy younger generations are without realizing that they got to cash in on THE BIGGEST ECONOMIC BOOM IN HISTORY. What better generation was there for workers in all of human history but 1945-1980 America (don't be a smart ass and point out something better, it's pretty near near the top)? Opportunities existed that every Reagan supporter has voted out since.

When you ask Boomers with good jobs how they got there, I often hear stuff along the lines of "Well I was able to get a /hour factory job right out of high school. Then one year I answered an ad in the paper for a high paying job I wasn't really qualified for but they said no one else applied so good enough we'll pay to train you. 20 successful stable years went by as I moved up to executive vice president of development."

Cut to young people in the present. Even classic entry level positions like freaking receptionist or mailroom now require a college degree and 3-5 years experience for a /hour gig. The company will most likely not be around in 5 years and you'll have to start over. More likely, you will be stuck with dead end temp work where the agency charges /hour for you (but you only see of it) and you get zero benefits, time off, or even sick days. They also make you sign an binding arbitration agreement if you ever want to see work again (how is that shit legal since it's even worse than a yellow dog contract?).

That's where I am now after trying to switch gears from a dying profession. Worse is having a company's full time employees tell you, "Oh yeah. I started out as a temp too. They hired me after two months!" When I ask what year that was, it's ALWAYS before 2008. The only Gen-Y people I know who are doing okay are the ones who entered the workplace during the late 90s tech boom. Holy shit do I wish I had skipped college for that.

I can't imagine how fucked things will be once everyone's boomer parent safety net dries up. The only hope is that things will get shitty enough to get more people active in changing things.

Yeah Nominal we're on the same page. The non-profit arts organization I worked for as assistant development director, for 11.50/hr (and healthcare that cut into my exempt-state wages which I never used, after a wagefreeze and unpaid furloughs) eventually laid me off too, even though I was probably the hardest working person at the company who brought in the most amount of money and made the smallest amount of money.

I stuck with it for as long as I could, because at the time I was married, and I was like "well, this is what I went to school for! Writing creative arts grants, living for the arts, I love the organization and would take a bullet in the left butt-cheek for them even if it means living on fast food wages." So when they cut me off I was like "fuck it." My doorjobs aren't so bad; on good nights since we divvy up the tips I turn out making more than an average 7.5 day, but it's still like "wow.. I will never, in my life, own a house, unless I inherit my parents' or win the lottery or rob a fucking ATM."

Whoops not quite finished; the "fuck it" attitude is where most of us stand these days. I'm single, have a cat and a few housemates and we get along month-to-month smoothly. I can easily afford rent, beer, and occasionally going out, without any monetary support.

If I had played my potential cards right, I would have continued with videogame journalism and would have most likely gotten a writing job at IGN or Gamespot (we were all (mostly) friends back then) in the late 90s, invested in Apple, or gone into learning some skilled that wouldn't be expendable like writing, music or philosophy are. But they brought our generation up to think that way: "WOULD YOU RATHER BE COVERED IN GREASE, WORKING ON A CAR, OR WOULD YOU RATHER BE A ROCKSTAR OR WRITE THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL!?!" Those fucking posters covered my guidance counsellor's office, and they spoke to me.

Still, not bitter. It's up to our generation to be that paradigm shift that we want to see: it's not through a violent coup or resistance to "buying in" to a system that continually fucks us over. Rather it's about change in what we buy, where we buy it, and bullshit we buy into and where we sell it to. We have our parents' generation to thank for instilling at least that notion in our ontology.

Speaking as a boomer, I've never said this about any younger generations, nor have i thought it, nor have I heard any of my peers say this. Furthermore, you have to be blind not to see that young people are coming of age in a time of increasing insecurity.

I feel think this isn't a boomer yoiu're talking about, it's just an asshole. Talking about how kids are lazy isn't confined to one generation.When I was a young man, there were people saying the same exact thing about us. You'll probably complain about the younger generation yourself when you're older, and if your current carping about the older generation is any indication, I think you'll be very good at it.

Do you actually go around asking people this? I have to say, you don't seem lazy to me.

How the fuck does anyone not take in the logic of "Tee hee! It's gonna look like X" and take for a moment and realize "Yeah, it really is gonna look like X" and not make some sort of 'out' so that only the severely socially stunted

I kind of secretly enjoy watching videos like these, the ones that ask "what would YOU do".. like an actress gets her purse snatched by an actor in a situation where anyone could theoretically do the right thing and stop him... you know, so I understand his intent, especially after the first one. And those are some ballsy people to assault someone who for all they know could have a gun or a knife, and possibly a mental illness that would make him think it's a good idea to rob a person at a VERY public ATM.

But yeah.. it's only a matter of time, like drinking and driving, until you get what's coming to you.

I'm also sure that what he's doing is a crime, whether it's a prank or not, like yelling "fire" in a public place. Showing your face and putting 3 or 4 attempts on youtube isn't why your parents paid for your college education and that iPhone, kiddo.
