Yes, pistols are the problem. The problem is, people with a criminal record don't acquire them via legal means, and honestly given how utterly shitty the U.S is right now, it would be condemning many innocent people to become defenseless victims to prevent them from having firearms to protect themselves.

The detroit police are at the point of now recommending those who live there, and in neighboring townships to get a CCW as police response times are so inadequate.

Nobody should be expected to be a victim because somebody's nuts shrivel up at the thought of law abiding citizens, non criminals, owning firearms.

Reduce gun crime by severely regulating penile insecurity, not guns. I know the balls of everyone who don't need guns to live are big and scary, but if anyone is actually serious about reducing crime involving guns, that is where to start.

It comes not from any official policy, or even a majority opinion of police personnel, but from a single quote by police chief James Craig who based it all on his experience of living in Portland, Maine. Yes, a lower crime rate in a 5 figure population prosperous township compared to a poverty stricken metropolis of millions could only ever be due to concealed carry.

The NRA has actually shifted from a consumer advocacy organization in the 80s--back when it supported background checks--to a manufacturer's organization now. Along with the background check switch, the most insane indication of the switch is their position on silencers. Back in the 80s, they had nothing to do with silencer/flash suppressor manufacturers, for the natural reason that a silencer doesn't say "responsible gun owner" but does scream "professional assassin."

The current story is everyone should own a silencer because it's a necessary safety tool to protect children's tender ears.

But if you outlaw them responsible gun owners will be forced to use empty soda bottles, wrapped up towels or even pillows in order to protect their kids ears during a professional hit.

Why is "because it's fun for recreation" always brought out like that's a legit argument for keeping them legal? Shit, you could have a blast with C4 and grenade launchers, and you would even have "responsible" people who only use them for shits and giggles who never kill anybody, but we don't make those legal because we're not that retarded...yet.

Let me clarify: I knew a girl in college who liked to go to the shooting range for target practice a couple of times a week. It was just an activity that she enjoyed and felt enriched her life. Or, for example, people who participate in shooting sports at the Olympics. I've never fired a gun and have no desire to, but I simply don't have a problem with all guns under all circumstances. I would be OK with it if there were some kind of mandatory license/insurance system for gun use, similar to driving a car. I would personally estimate that as many as 75% of American gun owners don't need them and shouldn't have them, but it would bother me deeply if the ATF came to confiscate my mom's rifle because 'all guns are illegal period'. I'm totally in favor of clamping down on gun ownership. There are all kinds of guns that nobody has any business owning. Most people who use guns for 'recreation' are crazy rednecks. But making all guns illegal for everybody is reactionary.

I breathlessly await the day that black community activists begin a massive recruitment program for the NRA, urging every inner-city minority to sign up and take advantage of all of its benefits, such as the ,000 insurance policy for gun-related injury, or free marksmanship classes, just to see how frightened whites will react. Will they try to enact racist policies to discourage "urban" membership? Will they destroy the NRA in order to save it? I want to know, the schadenfreude would be delicious.

Whenever I hear that argument about neighborhood streets with bicycles and kids playing etc. from the right, I like to think these people think the Andy Griffith show is their version of a perfect society. Complete with commercials, cause you know capitalism and all that...
