The question in my head is is, most of Daniel Clowes' work is pretty real, and I don't read a lot of it, but most of it seems like kind of a rip off of Love and Rockets, just a little more realistic. I was also a cynnical boy with only a few friends growing up in a "weird" city and wrote down what I saw, and wanted to leave. If I wrote a book about my childhood would I be accused of plagarizing Ghost World?
If the names and situations were the same, that's of course a different story. I don't really know because he took down the movie, but I encountered people like Ghost World's Seymour all the time at the convenience store I worked at in high school (and people like the mullet guy). Like most people, I connected with the book and the movie because it was "so much like my own life" and not like superhero or rockstar movies.
I'm not defending LaBeouf for what he obviously did, but I feel sorry for him because he's stuck in this "I'm a guy and I hate him because my girlfriend loves him more than me" mentality and the "I'm a critic and he stars in shitty action movies" mentality. If he wanted to break free, I'd say "go for it, you're a human." It worked for Ryan Gosling, also a child of the Disney era (btw Only God Forgives wasn't exactly what I'd call an original idea either, they just dodged around that one with sparse dialogue and few character names.)

Considering he has a face and name that just cause me to want to smack him really hard, and that he acted in Transformers playing the most bumbling fool of an action hero that history has witnessed, the guy managed to truly come around in my book with some pretty good roles in some solid films.
Basically, as of recent, I really wanted to hate him, but he still came out looking like a pro in several movies.
I really don't have much to say about the plagiarism situation, as I don't know enough about it and I don't care, and this performance-art type meltdown or mockumeltdown seems fucking boring and stupid, but if he just sticks to acting he's all right in my book.

Now, I've shared my shitty opinion with "the world", I can go back to watching videos of kittens and Russians maiming themselves.
