Look at how fat and pasty and on youtube this guy is, you become what you hate

RocketBlender - 2013-12-29

Don't we have a tag for 'fat people that draw themselves skinny' or something like that?

RocketBlender - 2013-12-28

When I saw the YouTube video, I was getting ready to tell you guys about the 'funny Christmas hat' my family breaks out, year after year, visit after visit, that plays an annoying 'Christmass-ized' version of 'Shout!' and how it drives me insane.

Then I hit play.

Monkey Napoleon - 2013-12-29

Hey, it's that fat guy what hangs out with Ashens.

BHWW - 2013-12-29

Yes, I've found the whole "troll an obviously unwell person for yuks" bit to be unsavory for obvious reasons, which is why I usually skip past anything to do with the likes Chris-chan, Gabrielle Chana or a few years ago, wannabe horror author Nick Pacione - Pacione was/is some guy who had some atrocious, self-published sub-fanfiction quality horror fiction under his belt who was prone to send accusatory and angry and insult-riddled commincations to horror authors and editors and publishers, claiming they'd pirated his work, impersonated him online to make him look bad, etc.

Naturally there was some conflict and people responding to him in kind and a lot of his spats were featured on sites like LJ Drama (remember LJ Drama?) and the SA forums, etc.
But the guy was obviously deranged and after all that attracted the usual people who have nothing better to do than play poke the crazy person and they would e-stalk him and try to provoke him and mess with him even at times when he'd been relatively quiet.

EvilHomer - 2013-12-29

I vaguely remember LJDrama, mostly on account of GirlVinyl, original webmistress and arch-traitor of ED. And I think we all know where THAT went... talk about serial trolls who are even more fat and douchey than the idiots they target!

I don't think you should be skipping ChrisChan, though. People have done some horrible things to Chris, but his body of work is wildly entertaining, and he's thrived and flowered under adversity far more than your average internet target. That the current CWCki (webmaster? chief editor? what is he, exactly?) is just as fat and dorky as our hero is a point well taken, but two things about that. One, you shouldn't hold Larry's fatness against Chris. Not following CWC on account of guys like Larry Bundy makes aobut as much sense as not following Richard Dawkins on account of Ted Haggard. Two, I think a big part of Chris' appeal lies in the fact that he's really not that different from the rest of us. Chris is a Nerd Everyman; he's extreme, grotesque, and off-the-wall, but the difference between him and the rest of us internet-dwelling geekwads is one of degree, not of kind. He's a horrible mirror held up to the internet, a vision of what each of us could become, of the cheetos-encrusted darkness that lurks deep within us all.

jangbones - 2013-12-29

fat, unlikable, worthless people need SOME way to feel superior to other people

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-12-29

You have to understand that a huge part of Chris-Chan's early appeal (to me anyway) was that his adventures were surreal and hilarious, but not nearly as mean-spirited. This was a guy destined to live a long, boring life in complete anonymity, filling his days with power jerkathons and neurotically pacing the electronics aisle at Target. It was the internet that gave him an identity. It turned his banal, quotidian life into a Norse myth, where every trip to Target ended in a robot-dick-kicking battle royale with lasers and fireballs and a gender-dysmorphic Optimus Prime. Because of the Internet, Chris has battled his own doppleganger in a rock-off, did business with Shigeru Miyamoto, found a temporary release valve for his sexual frustration, been on MTV, had entire encyclopedias written about him, and developed some actual insight into his situation. Yes, really.

Obviously I don't condone bullying the poor guy. His current situation is serious; as in, lifelong descent into poverty and potential suicide serious. But if having his safety net pulled out from under him forces a change his lifetime of complacency otherwise couldn't effect, so be it. Either way, his story is too fascinating to ignore.

sasazuka - 2013-12-29

Is he actually the man behind the curtains at CWCki? I know Larry's contacted Chris a couple of times, but I thought that was after Chris had already achieved infamy and Larry was just adding to the JULAY pig pile.

What I still remember Larry best for:

http://www.naturalbornkittens.com/

He was in talks with anime studio Madhouse (the studio behind Satoshi Kon movies as well as CARDCAPTOR SAKURA) to have this thing made into an actual anime, but nothing ever came of it.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2013-12-29

For fuck's sake, no. Larry's a guy who's done a few bits on video games on British television and makes videos about older video games along with other random bullshit that amuses him. His only contribution to the whole Chris-Chan mess was the interview he did with him over video chat.

I have no idea how someone would conclude that he was one of the higher-ups in the whole mess.

themilkshark - 2013-12-29

They wanted to make fun of a fat guy for making fun of a retarded fat guy.

sasazuka - 2013-12-29

Yeah, I didn't think he was "head Guru". If Larry were actually the one behind it all, you'd think there would be at least one troll character with a British accent.
