WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-10-23

The whole episode was great. They also got stuck on a multicam sitcom, a Japanese game show, General Hospital, and they tried to out-David Caruso each other in CSI-land.

I liked the pharmaceuticals commercial:

The writers of Supernatural are able to push self-awareness to an amazing degree without completely wrecking the show's premise. It's a real gift.

Dr. Sexy, MD!

Yeah, the self-awareness is great. They even meet a prophet who has transformed all their adventures into teenybopper romance novels, and we get commentary on the Sam/Dean slash fiction that pollutes the Internet.

They were GRAPHIC NOVELS!

And I loved how the reasoning he gave for making their lives into comics was that being a prophet of God didn't exactly pay the rent.

I remember that, the reaction from some in the insane parts of the Supernatural fandom, yikes. Then again, you can say that about anything a lot of the crazy, obsessed or just plain jerky groups within the Supernatural fandom does or says. One of my favorite examples of this behavior involved this one fan who freaked out when Jensen Ackles showed up with his wife at a con because she "didn't spend all this money and come all the way to the con to see Jensen with his wife" or something like that.

Padalecki's wife gets an incredible amount of hate from the slash-harpies and other crazies who are obsessed and enthralled with the idea that he and Jensen are actually totally gay for each other and would spend all of their spare time having the gay sex but the network is forcing them to pretend to be straight and get "beards". There was something of a freakout amongst these types when it was announced Padalecki's wife was pregnant, as catalogued here, complete with all of the conspiracy-theories these people have getting aired out:

And no surprise, the actor who plays Castiel, Misha Collins, his wife gets a lot of hate directed towards her by some of the crazy fans as well.

The shipping fandoms out there seem to quickly forget that they're dealing with fiction. Supernatural, Sherlock, Hannibal, Doctor Who, and just about any show where handsome/pretty male leads are involved gets this massive groundswell of homosexual fanart, doctored videos, and animated gifs of looks the actors give each other in the shows underscored with "SEE?!! SEE??? HE'S TOTALLY WANTING TO FUCK HIM FOR REALS!!!!"

I'm so very glad my nerdy heterosexuality didn't lead me to any similar actions regarding shows I actually enjoy. I'd rather be obsessed with how phasers work than with all of the "obvious" signs that Lt. Barclay wants to have holodeck sex with Data.

You're right, they were graphic novels. My girlfriend and I just finished a hiatus from "Supernatural" so we could burn through "Breaking Bad" in a month, and by the time we got back to "Supernatural" I'd forgotten a few details. All I remembered was that the cover illustrations gave Sam and Dean pretty-boy Harlequin Romance muscles. And there was the fangirl who was in the throes of typing incest fiction.

Oh, hey:

Next time you rummage around in your car's trunk, be aware that you're giving it a proctol exam.

mouser - 2013-10-23

Er. WTH is that show??

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-10-23

The parody part is Knight Rider, an 80's staple involving David Hasselhoff and a talking car.

The other bit is Supernatural, a show starring two pretty-boys who can actually act and amuse. If the hunting ghosts/monsters thing isn't something that hooks you, keep in mind that Ben "The Tick" Edlund has been a writer for the series since season 2.
