I haven't seen this all yet but the beer stealing scene is priceless.

The "get out of my box" experiment is rigged. notice how in the first round, he waits til people are already in the box to say it. the second round, he says it long before people are in.

Aaaahh!! I only got 2 minutes in. But this seems *really* unscientific.
Humans are not chimpanzees or gorillas, theres an awful lot of diversity across the ape kingdom in group behavior sexual dimorphism, everything basically. Its a mistake to assume we act like gorillas of chimpanzees.
Studying human society is an especially tricky area as we dont really know what baseline human behaviour in the wild is if there even is such a thing, it is always mixed up with our particular culture and society.
Experiments and studies in this area need to be particularly well thought out and reasoned in order to be useful as opposed to muddying the waters even more.. not this.

Evo-psych is like 95% bullshit.
1. It's mostly untested, untestable hypotheses. We just don't have data on people thousands of years ago.
2. It generalizes from samples of American undergrads to all humans ever.
3. It largely just reflects the researchers' social biases.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-10-18

I disagree with you there. I'd say that was all certainly true back in the "naked ape" days. But evo-psych has certainly improved in last few decades, though now goes under a plethora of different names.
Really its just an attempt to extend the logical basis enjoyed by the rest of biology to the mind.
I would argue that it is now mainstream and part of any serious research into the brain/mind these days.

Even in the bad old days it was at least an improvement on non-evo psych.

I'm not one bit sad I canceled out cable-tv last week.

Nikon - 2013-10-18

You made the right call. I'd still have cable if I could get 90s-era cable tv channels.

Comeuppance - 2013-10-19

I haven't had cable since 2007. Because, you know, piracy, duh. Most shows are horseshit, ads are grating and account for roughly 1/3 of the show's time slot, and my schedule rarely means I'd be able to watch my favored show or shows when they air.

So I just wait until the next day and download them. For free. With no ads. And the ability to pause and resume them at my leisure. While I read something else or play a game. And also store it and have every episode on instant demand with no subscription, disc, or buffering.

It's basically the perfect way to watch TV.
